Do I need hair transplants or will HRT come to my rescue?

Megan.

Hi all. I'm very conscious I've not got much on top right now, it's there but very thin. I've been taking Min and Fin for a year now and they seem to have stopped the loss, and I've had some minimal re-growth. I've seen many on here comment on how much regrowth they get once on a full transition dose. I'm currently leaning toward getting some FUE transplants now, while I'm still pre-everything. I know YMMV with HRT but given the current state of my hair, can I ask opinions if I should go with the transplants or leave it, and roll the HRT dice?

Thanks in advance, Megan.

I think that you're going to need a transplant because it seems like your hair loss is a bit advanced.  Being on HRT, I've noticed quite a bit of growth but not enough for all of my hair to have grown back.

Although people don't notice it, I have some thinning in certain areas that makes me feel very self conscious at times.  In fact, I'm getting FUE done in a few months.

If you're planning on getting transplants, here is a helpful site to help you determine where you want to go. http://www.iahrs.org/hair-transplant/

Hope this helps!

Thanks Autumnleaf, this was my feeling, but I felt a sense-check before I spend a bunch of money was a good idea. I'm going to get myself booked into a clinic and get the ball rolling. I'll start a separate thread on my experience for those who might be interested. I've seen a small number of clinics that offer FUE without having to cut your hair, but most tend to give you a close buzz cut, the growing-out will have to start all over again

I had some areas near my temples that were completely gone for a number of years, that are growing back.
It was about six months before I noticed, but it's doing ok.

You might be ok. Give the hormones some time.

KarinMcD, thanks for the positive news. My hairline isn't too bad, some receeding, but I do think the HRT will help with that. I'll probably keep the transplants focused on my crown, if I can get a passable density there, I reckon I'll be in a good place.

It may eventually fill in but would probably take several years and even then the new hair would be very fine like baby hair and not all that great. A good wig can be a great and cheaper solution.

I have been in finasteride for several years now and my thinning hair has stopped thinning and has slightly recovered with a fine but fully acceptable medium length hair.

If you want longer hair, like I do, look into hair transplanting from the sides of your head to the top. This is on my To Do list, but not a high priority item.
