How common is it to change your middle name?

How did your new middle name come about?

Is this easier or harder to decide than your first name?

Just starting a discussion :)

It's fairly common. I certainly wasn't going to keep my old middle name. The new one i was inspired by something else that I read and that lead me to discovering something about the one I chose. It just felt right and from that point forward I knew it would be my middle name which it is legally now. Hugs

I used a feminine version of my male first name as my second name. I've never really understood the need for second names.

I've always gone by my middle name, though my first one is also used, but not by my friends. So if someone calls and asks for me by my first name, I know it's not a friend. (This was more important before caller id.)
I'll answer to either one, though. It's kinda a family tradition.
So for me, it is just as important as my first name.

I'm certainly NOT keeping my middle name.  Since I'm a II my dad got the first name and I got stuck with the middle name which probably caused me to be bullied almost as much as being small and slightly effeminate did.  My middle name, Ann, is/will be the same as my wife.  It was an easy decision for me since I think it works well with Beverly.

In my grandmother's family they always said girls shouldn't be given one because they would get a middle name when they married.  So my mom and my aunt neither had middle names as children.  My mother always used her maiden name but my aunt, after she divorced when she decided she definitely did not like men, ;D picked Mary as a middle name.

I am trying to figure this out as well. I think the name should flow. If it is a lot of effort to say or is a tongue twister, it probably isn't good. Ann, Marie, and Lee are very common. ( I need something to go with Monica, any ideas?)

If your mother is around you could offer her the opportunity to choose a middle name for you.  It was, after all, her prerogative the first time around; she might really love the opportunity to be involved.

That's what I did when I began the process of legally changing my name.  My mom was delighted to help.

Both of my birth parents are still around as I'm a minor still, but I'm not sure if they would get along with the topic.

My first name started with Anna and it sort of evolved a time or two and ended up at Winter.  So Winter is now going to be my permanent name.  I like it, it seems to fit me well :)

I've thought about middle names a lot and I really want to change mine.  Nobody really uses my middle name as of late but that probably has much to do with me not having one I'm comfortable with anymore.

Besides my middle name doesn't have much of a story behind it other than it being the middle name of many from my Dad's side.  I don't really know what I want to be yet but friends have said a few names I don't mind that much :)

Maybe I should talk to mom about it... Dad isn't exactly in the best place right now though so I want him to have a say if he cares...  Sorry for the wall of text xoxoxo

Depending on how it would flow with your last name I think Lee would go well with Monica but spell it Leigh.  Although the daughter-in-law has the middle name Lee.

Troy wouldn't really be fitting for a second name for a female.
I've had my decision as to keep family tradition for Ann :)

Well I didnt want to conform to a sterioype of feminising my old first name.
I also didnt want to choose a firs nae that would be shared with somebody that I knew.

My middle name? That became what my dad would of chosen for my first. So since its choosing was left to sombody ells It ws definatelly easier on me :)

My sisters name is Rosaleigh, Leigh just comes up here and there in the old old family tree. We might bring it back

What do you think of "Monica Kayley" with a last name kind of similar to Palmer. I thought it was pretty but not sure if it goes together well. I thought I would give my S.O. a chance to use all three names, so she could let me know I am in trouble. You know, then I say, "Oh crud what did I do?" :)
