Quote from: Dena on April 09, 2016, 09:34:54 AMThe current guess is about 1 in 600 to 700 but as people may remain in the closet their entire life, it's only possible to make a rough guess.
Quote from: Laura_7 on April 09, 2016, 09:38:55 AMhttp://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/TSprevalence.html... the prevalence of SRS in the U.S. is at least on the order of 1:2500, and may be as much as twice that value. Therefore, the intrinsic prevalence of MtF transsexualism here must be on the order of ~1:500 and may be even larger than that. These results appear to be consistent with studies of TS prevalence in recent studies in other countries. Note this is for transsexual people. The number of transgender people is much higher.*hugs*
Quote from: Devlyn Marie on April 09, 2016, 10:33:00 AMOne in twenty men crossdress, so the number is 5% or higher. Around fifteen million Americans.
Quote from: Laura_7 on April 09, 2016, 06:18:40 PMTrannsgender people not necessarily want to change their gender ...they show gender variant behaviour ...here is a graph:https://transaustin.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/transumbrella.jpg*hugs*
Quote from: alienbodybuilder on April 09, 2016, 06:47:58 PMThanks for showing me that illustration. This is what a support group I go to is going to start using:http://www.transstudent.org/genderunicornexample.jpegThey had the gender bread person, but now they're switching to this because it's more complicated.
Quote from: itsApril on April 09, 2016, 08:55:16 PMImpossible to say. Many with transgender inner life never express openly. On the other hand, many who transition successfully just fade from view and blend into the cis populace. TG people are certainly a small subset of LGBT people generally, and there are probably some 30-40 million LGBT folks in the United States. Perhaps one to two million TG folks here? I don't think we can know for sure.
Quote from: Cindy on April 10, 2016, 02:14:28 AMThe rated reported for people seeking counselling at the gender clinics in Australia is suggesting the 3-4% level may be accurate.
Quote from: AnonyMs on April 10, 2016, 05:02:21 AMI'm amazed the numbers can be so high. I can't make sense of it.Perhaps I'm showing my age.

I know some normal seeming cis men that don't seem feminine outwardly that you would never guess crossdress by looking at them, but they don't intend to change their gender.
Quote from: Cindy on April 10, 2016, 05:07:57 AMThere is a whole volume of the Journal of Psych Medicine dedicated to trans research published this month (don't quote me I need to check my emails of which journal it was).
