For real? How long were on hrt before your hair got curly? I've been on it 2 years and my hair is still totally straight.  But my hair is a little different from normal people hair so it probably won't curl.  You probably know this already but be like really careful who you let cut your hair. Not everyone knows how to cut curly hair or is good at it. It is different from cutting straight hair. A couple of people at work won't touch curly hair.

So true!  I actually had straight hair pre-hormones, Estrogen turned my hair curly.  I never wanted curly hair and was perfectly happy with flat, lifeless, bone straight hair.  Because I actually liked the hair I was born with, God smacked me and turned it curly.
It may not be the estrogen. My sister received a chemo type treatment that caused all her hair to fall out. When it regrew, it came out dark and curly. As you are taking hair medication, it's possible that it triggered the curly hair as it triggers new growth.

It went wavy after a couple months, and just continued to get curlier and curlier...  I fought it off for the first 12 months with the flatiron.  I had to give it up, straightening my hair 5 days a week for a year wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done.

I had a trusted friend, who does hair, fill me in on NEEDING to find a curly hair specialist.  She already knew how picky I was when getting my hair cut all those years when it was straight.  She figured I'd better be forewarned that it's a whole different "skillset", before I dealt with 9 months of nightmares over a butchered haircut... Yes it takes about 9 months for me to "let go" of a bad experience enough to let another hairdresser attempt it.

I kept my hair shaved most of the time for several years because of my huge bald spot, that is thankfully gone now.  The hair is growing in a bit wavy, so I hope it doesn't go curly on me.

I actually like the curls on you Harley.  I don't know why, but it just looks right on you.

You're friend is very right.  I've had people with curly hair come to me with really messed up haircuts. And a really bad haircut can be very traumatic. People with long hair wanting to go really short can also be traumatic. People get an idea of how they THINK they will look with really short hair and the reality is very different. If someone wants a drastic cut I always try to talk them into going shorter in stages instead of all at once and hope they listen to me.

It very well could be Dena.  But I'm only on Finasteride for my hair.

Thank you Artisia.  I'm still getting used to the curls.

You're 100% correct Julia... And curly hair takes half a decade to grow out to your collar bone alone.  I fear the scissors... they can take off a lot without even knowing it.  They can snatch you bald in a heartbeat, and set back your hair growth by 2 years or more with one bad snip...  Hard to believe that I have almost 8" of length on my bangs in that picture.

How long have you been growing it?  Mine is only 3-3.5" after 9 months.  Still better than it was, totally shaved and a huge bald spot.

You do need to be careful. Ask specifically if the stylist can cut curly hair. Even a phenomenal stylist might not be good with curly hair. One of the guys I work with is amazing with cuts but he won't touch curly hair. Yes I believe you have that much length. That's the thing with curly hair is that it's springy.  And that's the biggest mistake people make in cutting it. They will wet it down and keep it wet while they cut it. Then when it dries POOF! It gets springy and it's much shorter than the stylist intended. You can cut it wet but you have to make allowances for the spring back effect. I usually cut curly hair dry. It's just easier.

I have a great hairdresser on retainer.  So good in fact, that she doesn't want to cut my hair just yet...  Not till it hits my jawline.

Drat, about another 1-2 years before I have hair good enough to do something with.

Had a session with my therapist today and I arrived a bit early. It was gorgeous outside once again so it seemed like some pics out by the river would be in order.  Did my best to capture the waterfall behind me :)

I've been feeling really good and on top of life lately!... Did some clothes shopping today at my favorite consignment shop and was feeling cute for an old lady!... Scored a too short BCBG dress for next time the hubby takes me out on the town!

Hahah, I had the same problem after going on T. My hair was straight as hell and then, one day, it just started getting these weird waves at the front. It's now taken over my entire head.
My fiancée loves it. I'd have soon as rather kept my old hair; curly hair with an undercut style is very, very poofy and unruly.

Nice pictures Alyssa.  Very feminine. Ashley you look so good. Did you start estrogen before puberty or after?
