Mine's a 2013 =) Yeah the old ones are pretty cool but lacking all the newer gizmos and such . I am spoiled by heated seats nowadays lol.

A new Mustang or Challenger is on my car wish list, I like the classic car looks but also the new technology. There's a  modern yellow Challenger I see a lot at classic car shows here

Not sure if the Miata is a female car. What do you think about the newer VW Beetle or the VW Cabriolet?  I drive a Toyota Corolla and have been told a few times it's a chick car.

66 percent of Miatas are purchased by men. So that obviously precludes it from being a "chick car". Mazda actually modeled this car after the Lotus Elan which no one would accuse of being neutered. The original specs for both these cars were amazingly close and Mazda actually advertised it as sort of a poor mans version of the Elan. So if you drive one, you're a very macho sporty chick....congratulations.....now go shave your back. lol

I ride a Harley Sportster which is often called a girls' bike. I wonder if anyone told Sonny Barger he rode a girls' bike?

The color code for the origional MOPAR pink was "Moulan Rouge".  Look it up, great color.

I was very excited about getting one of those promotional Red Bull Mini Coopers with the giant can of Red Bull sticking up out of the back.  I actually followed one of them into a parking lot and spoke with the drivers.  It turns out that you have to work for them.  Now I don't even like Red Bull, and never drink it, but I'd be delighted to hand out promotional samples just to drive the little car with the giant can in the back.

Before my announcing my plans for transitioning I became infatuated with owning a Mazda Miata after taking my bosses Miata for a spin. So one morning I expressed my interest to several co-workers telling them this was the next car I wanted to purchase.

One started typing away on his computer while the other one said "they are chic cars, men don't drive Miata's". Then the other co-worker directed me to his computer monitor and showed me a funny video making shame of men who own Miata's. So I shut up and didn't continue the conversation.

A year later I announced my plans for transitioning and guess what, the one co-worker looks at me and said, well guess it's time for you to get a Miata.

Several months later at the advice of a friend who said the new 2016 models are worth waiting for and so I waited and purchased one.

Within the first month of owning the Miata I found a local Miata club in my city who meets every Saturday morning for coffee and then from a one to four hour drive where the longer runs we end up having lunch together. Guess what, out of 20 members there are (including me) three females in the club. Well do much for the Miata being a male car LOL. Even more interesting when going to lunch with a female co-worker she commented on the pink stitching on the upholstery, not something I believe a man would select.

I am very happy to have a car that suits me rather than buying into the standard run of the mill car like a had before, a Toyota Camry which I ended up selling to my next door neighbor and parks next to my Miata.

Just goes to show how something (or in other cases someone) can be stereotyped.

I want a car which is whatever is sleek and cheap. A miata will do nicely. Except I am too poor to afford it.

My ideal cars are sporty cars that look feminine. I like Japanese cars because of all the curves. I don't want a minivan because it just looks lame, makes me feel like a domesticated city person, and I can't race it. It is also more top heavy and therefore unsafe. I don't want blocky cars that Vin Diesel would drive either. I want sleek slick Japanese looking cars. Some cars are more feminine than masculine. For instance the Pantera or Ford GT40 are feminine cars, even though they are not fully curved. Can't afford any of them though. VW Beetle wouldn't be my first choice, but if someone gave me it as a gift I'd be happy with it.

As a former mechanic I can say Miata's are short peoples car's. I used to hate having to pull them into the shop because my knees were in my chin. Most of the owners were usually guys though.

I always found this subject kinda interesting. How we gender things. It is almost as though we see cars like we see clothes at times. I have owned many cars including a VW but my main car is a big old rugged Toyota 4x4 with big racks, locking differentials, skid plates. etc. I'd put a snorkel on it if I wanted to go to that bother. Maybe someday.

For small cars, I really like those little Fiats but I read they are pretty unreliable.

If cars were male and female, wouldn't we see a lot more unwanted motorcycles running around? ( i know...its all I could come up with)

The Miata is the most common vehicle to be used as a race car, according to the SCCA. So it's definitely one of the coolest out there, regardless how effeminate it may seem.


Also, all cars are girls. This is just a fact of life.

Interestingly, the whole "vehicles are female" thing comes from the fact that ships are, in proper English, referred to with feminine pronouns. There are a lot of grammar rules specific to ships, for some reason, and they're the only properly gendered objects in our language. They're also the only non-literary things with italicized/underlined titles. And as long as you're reading this far, take note that you never put "the" in front of a ship's name, unless that's actually a part of the name. She's called Titanic, not "The Titanic."

Ha, I also qualify as "soccer mom". At least I could escape the minivan The VW Tiguan or my old Grand Cherokee still qualifies me as a soccer mom (Ugh - that reminds me... The Stick figure family on my Grand Cherokee needs updating (or a gender change to be precise). Tiguan being the first choice usually since it has all the high tech I have come to enjoy. Never thought a heated steering wheel would be necessary, but it is sooo nice to have.

Getting in and out of those things in a short skirt whilst maintaining one's "dignity", must be a hoot!

Hahaha - yes, it is not easy to do AND to keep your privates private.

Not only the short skirt is tough, a pencil skirt or a bodycon dress is even harder. Or any other skirt / dress for that matter. It also does not matter much what car it is, the problem is the same.

On the other hand - the pencil skirt is a good training for getting in and out of the car graciously: Sit first sideways, then lift your legs and twist around into the car. To get out, do the opposite: twist sideways with your legs together, then slide off the seat. Fix your skirt once you are out.
Many celebrities got caught in unfortunate positions getting in and out of cars.

Personally I prefer vehicles that I sit a little higher and the vehicle rides higher on the road. 
Also where I live I always need 4 wheel drive and good tires designed for cold temperatures and navigating through snow.
A pickup truck and a SUV are what I am driving now.

Long past are my days of wanting cars like Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, Chargers, etc....
... basically they are so low that you have to fall in and crawl out of them and their low road clearance is useless in the snow and weather here in the winter.

I have a Miata and I used to own a Mini Cooper.  Both are thought of as chick cars, but I challenge anyone to drive one and say that.  They are so much fun to drive!   I'm not a big fan of larger vehicles but I do have a 1 ton dual wheel pick up, for when you just need to get the job done!

Hi Judi. I used to own a Miata, and now drive a Mini Cooper! Both are incredibly fun to drive, and I never worried that others thought they were chick cars. But now I want the ultimate: A spice orange or butter yellow 2008 Mini Cooper S convertible. I'd also take a BRG with two tone tan interior. [emoji6]

I also have a Ford F-250 diesel for the big jobs (like hauling bicycles).  [emoji16]

  My guy (the dominant one in the body, I'm the female cross dresser that comes out occasionally) is an older car guy, basically sports cars with the "handling" being more important that the "acceleration".  And oh my, I've been in some cars.  And a Miata is great!

  But I would really, really like to have one of those late '50's, early '60's pink Cadillac's.   And also someone who would like to pull me into the back seat and smear my lipstick, muss my hair and get at least to 2nd base.

I had a red Miata for many years and loved it. I used it for my first public outing as Leslie. It was the joy of my life at the time. But, finally, it wore out after a mere 360000 miles so I sold it for $3000. I did have a Harley Sportster by as I started riding longer distances the vibs started bothering my back and especially my hands, so now I have a Street Glide, which by any measure doesn't come off as a girls bike. Enjoy whatever you drive and tell the world to FO if they don't like it.
