So it's been 4 years+ on HRT, and I decide it's probably time for my first mammogram. I'd gotten several reminders from my clinic (also reminders for my "annual Pap smear." )

I get there, we chat a bit about the procedure, I'm being put into position, and mention that it was about time, with me being 51. The tech agreed, and I said, "But I'm drawing the line at getting a Pap smear...I don't want to get one of those!"

As she went back to the control room, she said that I really should get one, because it helps detect uterine and cervical cancer... I said that I don't have either of those. She asked, "Did they take everything out?"

"No, I never had them."

I was looking at her thinking, "She sees me as cis...:) and wondering when she would figure it out...I could see the gears turning in her eyes...

"Oooh, you're..."

"Pre-op, yes ma'am. Thank you, you're very sweet."

After that, we chatted a bit more, and her handling of my "girls" was the same as before, I never got the impression she changed her manner by knowing.

Anyway, I had a big ol' smile the rest of the day because of it.

;D

...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

At least she was very understanding. I'm glad it went well for you.

I'm too big of a chicken to do a mammogram yet, but I do do self exams now and then. I'm glad your experience was good, it gives me hope that mine will be as well.

50 yr old ciswomen who undergo mammograms have a much higher risk of breast cancer relative to yours which appears to be similar to cismales (as confirmed by studies on transsexual women), they have been exposed to estrogen for many more decades than you have (a girl during puberty, akin to your situation, certainly isn't required to have a mammogram) and are in menopause (you have higher levels of E). The situation is quite different. It would seem to me but I am no doctor, based on the evidence so far and your unique situation, a mammogram would not be warranted and one must not underestimate the effect of radiation on the body.

My 2 cents.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
