I saw 2 online therapists and corresponded briefly with another.
The first I spoke to was Melissa Leonhardt. I told her in the beginning that I wasn't looking for real therapist and was just interested in referrals. She was fine with that. Our sessions accomplished almost nothing. We would make it through maybe 5-8 questions each session and weren't making any progress whatsoever. I decided to ask her flat out when she thought she'd be able to refer me so that I could start scheduling consultations for top surgery (my surgeon of choice required a letter in advance of the consult). She refused to give me even an estimate as to when, so I fired her. We had 3 sessions and I was out $135.
I spoke briefly with Michelle O'Mara. She was super helpful and gave me an exact breakdown in terms of how many sessions it would take for her to cover the content she needed and to feel comfortable writing it.
I was also speaking to Graham Peveller at the same time. He also gave me a really easy breakdown of costs and number of sessions. Ultimately, he was able to get me started sooner and with less expense, so I went with him. Had a great experience. Very easy to talk to. He has you fill out a biographical form in advance of starting your sessions, so a lot of the background stuff I felt I was wasting my time on with Melissa Leonhardt was a non-issue with him. I bought a "top surgery package" for $320. It included up to 6 sessions, scheduled weekly to meet my needs, and to have my letter mailed from the UK to the US. We ended up only having 3 sessions.
I got my bottom surgery referrals for free after 1 in-person session with a therapist and psychiatrist at my local LGBT clinic. Had they not been available, I would've gone back to Dr. Graham in a heartbeat. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with trying to use his letters in the US.
