I keep seeing people post on how they are terrified, or scared!

Well.. what are you scared of exactly? War? Because that's happening.
School shootings? Because that's happening.
Pipeline? That's been happening.
Terrorism? Definitely alive and well. Going broke due to health insurance? Mm yes. Corruption throughout the system? Already there. Police officers being murdered? Yep, that's happening. Bullying? Check.
Loss of jobs? We've got that on lock. A tanking economy. Yep. Being discriminated against for your religion, political views, sexual orientation, race? That's been going on.
Rape, murder, violence, riots.. all going on and has been.

So tell me, what are you scared of that is not already happening basically everywhere? This isn't a Trump problem, this is a people problem. Y'all need to reevaluate your own selves..

Maybe America is a little too scared and a little too easily offended.

Quit being scared, crying around, offended by everything.. step up and do your part as an American, no, as a human being. Treat others with respect, help and encourage one another, raise your kids right, be a contributing member of society.
Make sure your hands are clean, that's your job. Burning the American flag? Get out of here with that crap, how about you do your job to make it a better place.
But right now, all I see is hate. It's disturbing, and the ones with the most hate are being exactly what they claim to be against.

What am I afraid of?

I'm afraid of losing my health insurance. Yes, I'm on a policy that meets the ACA standard including Section 1557, which grants transgender care coverage.

I'm afraid of the Federal judge in Texas that just ruled Section 1557 illegal, and claims his findings apply nationwide.

I'm afraid of the Family Research Council project working to get this ruling through the appeals process and to a Supreme Court hearing once the court is back to 9 justices.

I'm afraid of the Heritage Foundation and their actively lobbying to remove what they see as the greatest threat in the ACA, the ban on preexisting condition exclusions. I AM a preexisting condition.

I'm afraid of the loss of insurance subsidies and the underwriting reinsurance in budget reconciliations this October.

I've always treated others with respect. I defended my country at great risk. (Look up the USS Parche, SSN 683. What's reported is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.). I've contributed to society in many ways. Heck, I hold 18 patents, and my inventions are used by a half billion people every day. I've improved their lives.

I'm afraid of the van that followed me here to this diner for 5 blocks at walking speed. It looks similar to the one reported in a couple of beatings of trans people here a couple days ago. (Yes, I called the cops. There's a round chambered, safety still on. I'm careful, not stupid. )

I'm glad you are free of fear. It must be a pleasant place to be out and free.

EDIT:  I am back at my apartment now, safely.  Weirdness like tonight is enough to induce agoraphobia.  Yuck.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

I'm not afraid.  I am extremely angry that the country I defended for 20 years has been usurped by people whose entire worldview is informed by Fox News, The Drudge Report, and Brietbart.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

I kept laughing at the one side and their commentators and campaign managers   thinking this can't be real .Wow , what a shocker.

All those things are happening for everybody. It's that there are extra bonuses that we're special enough to get in addition to all that.

As a veteran I've upset that a handful of radical right wingers are tying to infringe upon the freedoms that I served to protect.

All my documents are corrected, and many of the correcting documents are sealed.  My transition is done, but I fear for my trans sisters and brothers who will undoubtedly face danger, ridicule and discrimination because of expected political changes.  I fear that some of the expected social changes will make it hard, and for some, almost impossible, to live their lives joyfully and peacefully.  I mourn for those that may never get to celebrate a new life because others think that we're not worthy of common decency and respect.  I see the direction that our country is headed, and I fear that freedoms and liberties will be lost by much of society that most needs its protections.

Am I weird?

Thank you, being American does not mean saluting the flag and accepting whatever idiot managed to get elected. Protest is entirely an American right and responsibility.

Nothing ever motivated me as strongly to work for change as having presidents Nixon, Regan and Bush 43 in office and Trump is equally motivating the left as it should be.

Finally burning the flag is legal in the US thank you and a recognized expression of free speech. I'm old enough to remember Vietnam which was an immoral (and undeclared) war just as was Bush's invasion of Iraq. I respect our soldiers who went overseas in both cases, what I do not respect is the corrupt and incompetent politicians who sent them.

I afraid for the youth. They didn't grow up in the environment that we did, they don't know that "This too, shall pass." Their whole world is being turned upside down. I see them writing suicidal notes online. I'm mentally tough enough for what's coming, but is everyone? No frigging way.

And oh yeah, things can get worse. Strap in, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
