"It's the hair"

While my hair has been spiked *as is in avi* I've had two people call me a girl and when i've corrected them they've replied with: "Oh, it's the hair."

Meaning... my hair makes me look like a girl

It's relitivly long, and obviously has alot of work put into the styling. Both very female traits. If it was just a few inches long and spiked, it'd be much more male typical.

Considering Cire's post - Wishy, I know you tend toward a more androgynous look, but it probably doesn't aid in passing right now. If passing is important, maybe you should concentrate on having an 'average' male appearance until HRT.

90% of gender presentation is hair.  Head hair, face hair, body hair.  Change your hair and some people can see a different gender.

You look quite androgenous facially Wishy but I don't think anything is related to hair.......a lot of M to F TS's have long hair but just look more like heavy rockers.

There's not a lot of short styles i like. And even if i wanted to cut my hair (which i would just want it trimmed) i cant afford it anyways. I cant even afford wellies for my farm trip at college, nor the card to be able to do assignments.

   I kind of think the hair is too stylish.  I was wondering how you were getting by people.  I just assumed your demeanor made up for it.

   I have no solution for the no money problem.  Sometimes around here, you can go to a hair styling school and the students will cut it real cheap to get the practice.

   Just so you know, I like your hair.  It probably does get in the way of presenting, though.

If you just think of the money you'll save in hair spray and products alone, you'll make up the 15-20$ that a regular guy haircut costs easily.

If you want a guy haircut, you can do it yourself easily. Pick up some used hair buzzer at a garage sale (cheaper than a haircut) and buzz the sides to 1/4-1/2" and the top to 2-3". Bam, guy haircut.

I think many people here have it right that people assume gender by hair. My best friend has a full and thick beard and long hair past his shoulders, people constantly assume he is female before opening their eyes and seeing the beard and his other masculine features...head hair is prominent in what people see. Hope you find a good solution wishy.

This is my personal opinion wishy, but I think it's because it's really long that they assume that your a female probably.  I know some guys can pull it off, but most people seem to sterotype guys with long hair as either like beach hippies or like. . . I don't know actually lol.  Maybe you should consider cutting it shorter to see how you enjoy it?  If not it always grows back.  That's my philosophy on hair

The hairdo is very cool but does look typically female.

What you need is a little facial hair and no one will ever call you a girl.

And at first read, I thought you were MtF and was thinking she has got a long way to go to try to "pass" as a woman.
