Keep me in your prayers, friends! My first day out to work with my nails painted, makeup on, women's jeans and a purse. On the bus right now, so far, so good.  :-*

I'd wish you good luck but I know you've got this.  Be the confident woman you want them all to see and you're going to do great!!  Congratulations!!

 Go p GO!

Oooops that sure didn't sound right. Sorry. (lol not)

What I meant was I'm proud of your bravery in taking this step. I can't even tell my daughter yet let alone come out in public, no less where people know me. I applaud you. ( the sound of clapping hands)

You got this lady. Go p, go

You GO girl.
I really admire this step you have taken. I wish I could do the same but have not the courage.
Good luck and let us know how it was.
Ciara.

Wow.  Hope yours goes well.  My first day was Monday and I've only had one (!) Mis-gendering all week and she almost cried when she did it.  The support from everyone (!) Has been unbelievable.

There is only one "T" that I know of in the area and I know her, but the number of LGB folk who have touched base to say hi is surprising.  (People I had no idea about.). They all "welcomed me to the club" to which I reply "thanks, but your initiation requirements are a bit extreme in some cases." (It gets a chuckle.)

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support and encouragement! I am so grateful!

Everything went well. I think I am getting a lot of stares, not passing at this point (for one, I don't have any breast forms yet), but I live in a liberal area and everyone was at least polite to me. Went to work, post office and grocery store. My parents called me to say how proud they are, which meant a lot

Special thanks to JeanetteLW whose story about going to her first support meeting made me want to go out en femme today! You all inspire me so much!

Love,
P

Me?? Gosh I'm flattered I don't think the praise is deserved but I will thank you for it. What you did today was far more and a heck of a lot scarier. I know I couldn't have done it.

So bravo Girl you have my respect.  I'm glad you managed to do it. I'm sure it was nerve racking.

BUT YOU DID IT !!!!

Hugs,

That's amazingly brave. It still takes me an hour to pluck up the courage to do the 20ft from the front door to the car!  What if the neighbors see, what if the postman comes round the corner, what if my wig blows off?

None of this ever happens but, I can't help worry. To be fair, once I'm away from home it's loads easier but, I truly admire your strength of character to go into your work. Good for you, hope you enjoyed it. :)

Way to go P!

Brave of you. And I'm glad everyone was nice to you. I wish I also have the same support from home when the time comes.
I'll hopefully be there in a year.

I think I am getting a lot of stares, not passing at this point....

He he he, all part of the fun, and it really gets better fast as you work on polishing all the gender clues.  But you may not be getting as many stares as you think you are, and, in any event, who cares if they're thinking "Is she or isn't she?"

Nights are definitely easier due to lower light levels in bars and restaurants.  The metro is the worst, especially when slighly tipsy people are returning home - their reduced inhibition can cause some very pointed and bemused stares.

Anyhow, you've been wonderfully brave, and that's 100% the way to go!

Oh, a couple of easy things to help you pass in you've not already done these:  eyebrows are a major gender clue, so fixing those is an instant and cheap boost.  And if you've got short hair, think about getting a wig while your hair grows out.  Go to a serious wig store, and do it with a family member - you're aiming for a natural and modest look rather than anything striking.  Not cheap to do correctly, but very effective....

Thanks so much again to everyone who posted--I am so glad to have this supportive community! I am here at work, 2nd day out (Fridays I work from home). I have basically just fallen into full-time, and I love it. Changing name and gender pronouns with family, work colleagues next. Yay!!!

To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Way to Go P. Im proud of you. First time is always the hardest. Soon it will be the norm and you won't even think about it. It took me about 10 times out before I felt comfortable.

Luv to hear about these moments of self fulfillment May the journey continue to be a great one for you.

Huggs Niki
