When did surgery start feeling 'real'?

So I have my surgery coming up soon  (;D). But although I'm starting to get nervous it doesn't feel like it will actually happen; if that makes sense. TBH if the surgeon called up to say the surgery is cancelled I'd be sorta indifferent about it. So just curious how others have experienced this. Was it not until the pre operative appointment or the surgery date itself?

Felt real when I said yes, I want to proceed, more so when they told me a date that was too late (August), yet more as I waited 3 weeks on confirmation of a cancellation date.

Felt real as f***-all when I decided a couple of weeks after that I wouldn't change my mind, and as I went under anesthesia.

It also felt pretty real for 6 very hard weeks of recovery. Now it feels real because things are mostly healed and starting to feel truly right.

My surgery is 5 days away or is it 6. It does not seem real yet. I guess it is because I was  worried so much about being able to have the surgery that I kinda won't believe it til its over. Maybe when they wheel me in the operating room it will be real.

For which surgery?

For the FFS, it wasn't until the day of -- and specifically, when I put on the surgical gown.  For SRS, it was when I packed my suitcase to fly out.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.
