About to Start HRT and Looking at My Initial Blood Test Results

Hi I'm new to the forum and figured I'd join since I'm now getting ready to start HRT (MTF) soon  . I had some initial questions on my blood test results for my Estrogens, Total test (i.e. e1+e2+e3) which came back as 84 pg/ml, which seemed high to me as I have not been taking any steps (diet, supplements, creams, etc.) to increase my estrogen levels prior to my blood test and thus this is a baseline measurement. As I do not possess a medical license or deep experience with the endocrinology realm any feedback from anyone who has seen similar results would be greatly appreciated. I guess my question really boils down to is are these levels outside the "norm" and if so what might be some of the natural causes for these elevated levels? All input is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Susan's Place. My understanding is that total estrogen is only E1 and E2 as E3 is almost useless and is a waste product on it's way out of the body. That said, Estradiol (E2) can range between 15 and 60 so when you add E1 in, It appears you are still within the normal male range. I suspect that your E1 levels are at least as high as the E2 levels and if so, that would put your estradiol around 40pg/ml which is a pretty typical male level. Sorry to tell you this, but so far things appear to be pretty normal.

I have to agree with Dena. On my latest Quest Diagnostics lab results, it lists the normal male range of total estrogen as 60 - 190 pg/mL.

Thanks for the feedback, again it was a question of curiosity since I was having a really hard time finding what the male range was for estrogens total (finding the e1 range was easy to find, but I was met with difficulty in finding the e2 or e3 ranges). I'm just wanting to be little more informed on my initial results before heading back in for my physical.
