A geeky post about bra band construction!
Like many CDs, I only take a small cup size, but I get frustrated that the bra back bands are so narrow for A, B and C cups. The band is normally only 2 hooks deep. It is pin, ched, tends to ride up and create an obvious groove in your top when underdressed.
In frustration, I bought a strapless bra, which has a 3 hook deep band. The deep band is such a revelation!
It fits so snugly and the really wide side panels provide a serious amount of secondary uplift, which have given me a lot more projection. Although I am wearing it with bra straps, the support of the band means that they don't have to be so firmly tightened (which is why it's a strapless bra!). An additional point is that as the straps are removable, I can replace them with wider (frumpy?) ones if I want to.
In the deeper bra band, I feel so comfortable, supported and confident.
Until now, it seems that the wider bands have only been available in strapless, sports and large cup bras. However, it seems that the Autumn styles are introducing deep band bras for smaller busts:
