So I looked up what breast buds are & they are apparently "nickel sized lumps beneath the nipples." I seem to already have these, I have since puberty... I also read that half of all boys develop them during puberty but they USUALLY go away after 2 yrs... Anybody familiar with this? Am I incorrect & feeling something else?

What many of us describe as "Buds" are a very under developed glandular tissue in the breast area that under the influence of Estrogens will develop into the milk producing glands of a female breast. All mammals have buds, both male and female. Do you have nipples? That tissue is also undeveloped breast tissue.

Breasts are made from 2 types of tissue, glandular and fat tissue. Skinny girls usually have more glandular tissue  :( and overweight men have plenty of fat tissue.  :embarrassed: Most females have some of both in variable amounts.  ;)

I am 33. I remember when they grew 2, my nipples were rather sore & sensitive...

Assigned, yes. Started HRT & intend to fully transition to female. I was on meds for ADD in middle & high school (and started again recently) & I've heard that some caused breast development in males. I've always had a bit of "fat" around my nipples, always thought it was strange cuz I always had very little body fat (years of hard labor, even in school). I'm curious if there's a correlation. I'm also curious (& hopeful!), that if there is in fact a correlation & I've already got very slight breast growth, if I'll start developing/showing/have better results. I am most assuredly NOT getting my hopes up.But I still can't help but wonder... I've done oh-so-much research on HRT & everything related to it. It's so fascinating & exciting!! :D Just curious (I say that A LOT), were you ever on ADD meds? Are you male/MTF? Are you doing HRT, & If so how long have you been doing it?

So does HRT cause trans women to grow more of the fat tissue or glandular? Does it depend on their weight? And are you saying the breasts I will eventually have will produce milk? Sorry if I ask something obvious/dumb, as I said earlier I find this whole journey FASCINATING!! I spend hours a day on these forums & the net doing research, It's so exciting & fun! I'll almost be sad to cease changing in a few years... ALMOST!! LOL!

For most trans women, both. Many of us report weight gain with HRT. The amount of weight gain is really determined by diet and exercise.

Yes, some of us report this as a shifting of fat away from male areas, such as the abdomen to female areas, such as thighs, butt and breasts.

And are you saying the breasts I will eventually have will produce milk?
Only if you produce prolactin. During pregnancy, high circulating concentrations of estrogen and progesterone increase prolactin levels by 10- to 20-fold. Estrogen and progesterone inhibit the stimulatory effects of prolactin on milk production. The abrupt drop of estrogen and progesterone levels following delivery allow prolactin—which temporarily remains high—to induce lactation. A few trans women have reported small amounts of milk secretion from their breasts. This is not very common but it can happen.

No. I'm new to not just the forums but trans stuff in general, hence all my questions...

Wow ok, I see. You are a wealth of knowledge! Do the breasts & butt areas tend to be firm or more... Saggy? Or is that something that varies depending on age, exercise etc.? I hate my butt... Typical saggy man butt... And what if an area already looks feminine? I'm curious cuz my legs look pretty good already (my ex wife was jealous, said I looked better in a skirt than she did, lol...). From your experience will they get fatter or does the muscle loss balance it out?

Firmness or saggyness all depends on age, % body fat and physical exercise. The younger we are the more firm our body fat is. Keep in mind, I am 68 years old but my breasts are similar to an 18 year old girl, very perky. I have been on HRT for 3 years. Women should have about 20 % body fat to fill out properly. Any less and you will look too thin. Exercise will tone the muscles under the surface fat to provide a good foundation for a feminine appearance. Do lots of stretching and aerobic with a little resistance training.

Ok good to know! It has been hard for me to gain weight in the past; first labor, then drug addiction, now methadone keep me skinny... Most people gain on 'done, but I actually lost... A LOT... Almost 40 lbs in 5 months! I'm 5' 11" & I got down to 145... haven't seen that since Middle School... When I decided to start transitioning I knew I had to start exercising & put on weight, so I started forcing myself to eat, happy to say I gained 15 lbs in just over a month! Noticed I actually have a desire to eat now too, thanx 2 hormones! I will begin to research good exercises & diets that will aid in transitioning. This is the single most important thing I've ever done in my entire life, & damn it, I'm going to do it RIGHT!!! Thanks so much for all the info, Dani! I really appreciate it!!
Much love, -Jessi [emoji178]

At 5'11", 160 pounds is around what you want to weigh. If you intend on gaining much more, I suggest you discuss it with your doctor as body types somewhat determine what the upper weight gain should be.

Oh ok, that's also good to know. 160 has been on the low end of my average weight, 185 being the high end (almost all muscle, from a few years ago when I swung a pick and shovel all day installing irrigation). I will try & maintain that weight. It's strange, I've never really had to worry about exercising & maintaining a certain weight before... I've always kept fit & trim thru working hard jobs; & despite putting my body thru hell w/ drugs (regrettably...[emoji20]), it always ran like a top. Now I'm unemployed & homeless for the first time in my life, and I've got to take extra good care of myself... Will be a challenge, but the outcome will make it all worthwhile! [emoji3]
