Hi Eva! 6 months for a name change, you don't mess around.
Hi. Well, I was planning on doing it next year but a few things came up. First, I ended up "developing" really quickly. It made me super noticeable. Every one can tell I'm trans without a question. My face has not caught up with everything else, sadly. I figured if everyone is going to know, I might as well jump in head first and just be me. The second part was that I only ever want my real name, Eva, to show up on my sons birth certificate. If I waited until next year which was my plan, it would mean amending his birth certificate too. There's enough paperwork to deal with during name change, why add more? I also plan to be back in college (online) starting in the new year, and I am starting at a new place so I figured I wanted to only go as myself and not as "him."
The court was surprising too because I was told that I would have to file everything, wait for 3-4 months for a date which may be another month or two out. So when I applied at the beginning of August, it was with the assumption it would happen in November. Well, I guess the court where I am is right on the ball because before I even stepped out the door they had a date set for me for the next week...I told them it was too soon (I didn't have anything nice to wear) and they pushed it out another two weeks. It was a whirlwind of stuff but I'm glad I did it. It's simplifying my life and making me happier since everyone I meet now will only know this name.
(Sorry for the novel. I like writing a lot.)
