In the movie "Contact" they said aliens could be receiving the earliest TV broadcasts from earth.  I suspect that if they were to watch some of the current shows, they'd conclude there was no intelligent life here.   ;)
4 out 5 E.T. folks recommend Match Game 78, and an impeccably tailored leisure suit.

Clarence the alien said "Last week I was in the neighborhood, so I decided to fly over to Earth and do some people watching; and I was surprised to find out they still haven't invented blank"

"Damn it Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a game show host!"

I thought contact was pretty boring. I wanted to see the aliens destroy cities and exterminate people. Everyone knows the only reasons aliens would come here ate to eat us, enslave us or exterminate us. The idea aliens would come and be friendly and want to help us is totally far fetched. Now war of the worlds was a cool movie even though I can't stand Tom Cruise. I kept hoping somehow that he would be evaporated by a heat ray but no such luck.😟

Have you watched the Great Martian WAr 1913-1918?

It's about what really happened during World War I:

Don't worry about heat ray!
Between the "cracks" in the earth's magnetic field and the "Sun" throwing solar flares at us tomorrow, might be a little electronic shake and bake.

I saw soap on a rope (at least what you can see of a aircraft traveling multiple mach numbers at around 100,000 feet) and I knew what it was. The unidentified sighting was when I was on a scout camping trip many years ago. Laying under the sky at night, I saw an object moving across the night sky. By then they had Echo 1 up there so objects in orbit were known. The problem with this one was it was making right angle turns as it moved across the sky making kind of a square wave pattern like you would see on an oscilloscope. Still today I can't think of anything that can change directions that fast at that distance but I know what I saw. Unidentified, yes but what was it? I haven't a clue. By the way, I wasn't the only one who saw it and another scout pointed it out to us.

Cool story Big Sis.  I was in the scouts also, Eagle, as a matter of fact.
Anyway, at Summer Camp in the San Bernardino mountains back in the 60s it seemed everything was much clearer up there, especially at night.  We use to be able to identify Spunik as it passed by, you could actually see it without optical assistance.  Nowadays, I don't or can't even see the North Star :)

And I you, young lady!

No, they didn't take me.  They did once, well one that looked like a pretty lady but morph into a horse face but she was nice.  I told her I didn't want to go and she said okay and brought me back.

Hi Cassi!  I lived in a canyon in the SF Bay Area in the 70's.  I personally saw a ball of bright arc white light traveling with the contour of the land.  I was silent and fast.  I mentioned it to a friend later and he said he saw the same thing come out of the canyon and continued over the bay then strait up.  The next day the Oakland Tribune reported the same object over the Central Valley.

It was weird for me.  For some reason the entire family went out to the backyard and saw what seemed like a white light traveling across the sky, then it turned and became bigger and bigger.  I think I was 8 and it scared the C out of me and I went and hid under the bed (alot of good that would have done).  But the image and memory remains though everyone I talked to about, aside from you now, as no recollection.

Ha! Yes. Right there with you: in the late 90's I had such a crush on Katie Holmes and he stole her!  Rewatching Dawson's Creek made me realize that her and I tuck our hair behind our ears the same way [emoji23] (OK that crush lasted a lot longer)

@ Julia:   I agree, Contact was pretty boring for sure.
I also do not like to watch Tom Cruise movies... especially did not like the Mission Impossible movies at all.... too many fake special effects and improbably stunt scenes where he actually survives.  The one possible exception is the 2013 movie Oblivion  ... pretty good story line and he did a good acting job in that one.

Remake of Independence Day was okay.

A few films I have enjoyed;

War of the Worlds (1953) - Year of my birth!
The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) - "Klaatu barada nikto!"

Cassi:

*Of course the original Independence Day (1996) was a great movie.
*The War of the Worlds  (1953) ... the old one was a classic for sure.... the new one in 2005, not so good, I don't like Tom Cruise,
.......the exception might be Oblivion (2013) ... Tom Cruise did a good job in that one.
*And, yes, The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)... another great classic.  The new 2008 one, not nearly as good.
*Battleship (2012) ... very exciting
*One of my favorites but it didn't do well in the theaters....  The Arrival 1996....  I though it was a great movie with a good story line and good special effects. the sequel in 2016, not good at all.
There are many more sci-fi movies of a similar nature but those are my favorites above.

I generally like good science fiction.....  I am a Trekkie... all of them  STOriginalSeries, STNextGeneration, STVoyager, ... ......except STDeepSpaceNine and the very lame STEnterprise.
I also like Star Gate the movie (1994) and the Star Gate SG-1 Television Series.
I am not a big fan of Star Wars... in a little too much far fetched and whimsical for my tastes.

So, Cassi, ....  Star Trek?   or Star Wars?
Any other favorite Sci-Fi movies that you like?

Just another Science Fiction fan,
Appy

Good morning Appy!

:(  - I like your other avatar picture - makes me feel like Christmas for some reason!

The Arrival was good.  I think there was a second one too.

I've always enjoyed SyFy, Fantasy, and even HallMark though I use to be the last one to admit it.

Star Trek goes way back to the high school days.  I had bought a cheap black and white tv and watched the first aired episodes of Star Trek on it - I'm old as dirt so to speak.

During my college days, I was taking a couple of Telecourses which aired on PBS.  For some reason I had missed the class presentation but there was a tv show from the BBC about some curly haired guy in a Police Box (Tom Baker - Doctor Who).  I kinda got into it and then it went away.

A few years later, I was channel zapping and again there was that big blue Police Box that looked exactly like the one I had seen with Tom Baker but none of the actors were the same.  That was Jon Pertwee, lol.  Thus began my Doctor Who courtship, lol.

I too am not a big fan of Tom Cruise.  Wasn't a big fan of the Tom Cruise War of the Worlds movie.  And was a little disappointed with Keanu Reeves Day the Earth Stood still - Michael Rainie was the man.
