I was in Atlanta once and they had fried pickles and fried tomatoes. I would give pickle cookies a try.

I'm late to Danielle's Chronicles but I'm loving every update. Danielle, You'r giving me so much hope for a bright future and the possibility of being the bride in the dress I dreamed about as a very little girl in hiding.

Ah! this is why Danielle ( @Alaskan Danielle ) is so busy baking cookies...

I was suspecting she is just trying to drum up business for her sweetheart. But now it all makes sense! Hope Danielle makes sure that Santa does not eat all the cookies on the first pass, otherwise he may have to drop a few bags of gifts given the weight he has gained...

@Alaskan Danielle : Could you give Santa a bag of cookies to bring over to my place? I know I am on his naughty list, but my kiddo would love some of your cookies...

Dear Moni:
You are very correct... the Alaska Railroad is the main freight hauler coming from our largest city Anchorage but the Railroad tracks are not passable so railroad service is cancelled.  Also many of the main highways and bridges coming north from Anchorage are damaged and if not closed, they are slow going.
Fortunately in my small town, we do not need large quantities of supplies and freight like a larger city like Fairbanks may need... we get all of our freight and supplies by truck....   but we are concerned.   

Like many townspeople here I am quite prepared and always keep a pantry full of food, and my propane tank is full, my vehicle gas tank is full and our electricity has not even flickered... so I am prepared to wait this out. 

BAD NEWS: My tentatively planned Christmas Shopping trip to the big city with my Tooth-fairy Suitor #4 will most likely be delayed and/or cancelled.          The good news is that all the airports are open and running.

Alaska Railroad reports impassable track north of Anchorage after earthquake

Damage from Friday's 7.0 earthquake in Southcentral Alaska has rendered parts of the Alaska Railroad system north of Anchorage "impassable," indefinitely shutting down train service between Anchorage and Fairbanks, an official said Saturday.

Tim Sullivan, an Alaska Railroad spokesman, said in a statement that the railroad had identified at least three areas to the north damaged by ground shifting, cracking or sloughing.

At one spot near Nancy Lakes, in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, crews reported cracks 2 and 4 feet wide and between 100 and 150 feet long on each side of the tracks, Sullivan said.

I'm so glad to get the positive news from you and your little town! But the rest of the facts regarding rail and roadways in other areas are quite sobering. Yikes! I can't even imagine the earth opening up where I live in the Midwest. I'd be afraid to go anywhere near these areas. You seem to have the perfect mindset with your preparations, but I'm sure this is required to survive and thrive out there. Sorry your Christmas plans are affected and I do hope you can make the most of it.

Today ... still on my road trip, having a nice mini-vacation.

-16 deg F.   Sunrise this morning 10:55AM and sunset 2:35pm

Winter solstice next week on Dec 21... even shorter day and longer night
