I just feel taller and when I'm around friends I noticed I'm taller than I remember.
Even with my brother, he's older than me and always has been a few inches taller. Now it doesn't seem like much at all.
I'm scared mtf hrt made me taller.
Or maybe it's because I feel like I'm tall. I'm not sure anymore.

It could be that maybe you're not taller maybe you're more proud and happy so you stand more straight up and that can actually make you seem taller

If you can't accept yourself,  how can you expect others to accept you?

No it won't make you taller if you've already reached the end of puberty.  My vote is going to have to be that your posture has improved... confidence will do that.  Both of which (confidence and posture) are wonderful things.  Stand tall and be proud girl!
At what point did my life go Looney Tunes? How did it happen? Who's to blame?... Batman, that's who. Batman! It's always been Batman! Ruining my life, spoiling my fun! >:-)

Even though my bones get thinner I seem to still be growing... in my 40's.  And my hips are still widening, my feet even growing.  Don't ask me, my entire biology is screwed up.

If your epiphyseal plates didn't seal right, then its entirely possible HRT can make you grow more.

Well that is so interesting I'm already 6 foot tall I really hope I don't get any taller in fact I would be happy shrinking a couple of inches

Ya I was 6'1 3/4" about 5 years ago.   Apparently I'm 6'3 now.. Went from size 9 to 11w shoes too. ITs ... annoying.

HRT is unlikely to make you taller, but you may have better posture than you did.  I find it easier now to suck my gut in, which makes me stand straighter and has the benefit of making my boobs more visible.  So I tend to stand taller now than I used to, even without any actual growth.

It could be just a normal growth spurt. But if you are taller you should feel awesome about it!!! At least you're not stuck with me under the 5' 2 mark. 😰😠

Hi Doreen,

As we age our feet change.  For most people, they both widen and lengthen.  It's generally not from actual growth but more from stretching and flattening.  As we age, our ligaments and tendons start to loose some of their elasticity as well as begin to stretch.  We put a lot of stress on our feet and they literally take a pounding every day.  In our early 20's my spouse & I wore the same size shoe - 9W in most styles, 10 with pointy-toed shoes.  Not so much anymore...

In my case, I am losing height... I am 5 ft  4 inches now...
... before transition I was "almost" 5 ft 5 inches.
Also my shoe size is smaller by a half size...

Perhaps it is just because I am getting older????

I have read that boys castrated before puberty became especially tall because testosterone was needed to seal those plates.  I have sometimes wondered whether testosterone blockers can have the same effect when used before puberty, and whether female hormones stop that growth by simulating female puberty.

Certainly, some young trans women who were given puberty blockers seem rather tall to me.

Very interesting, I did not know that..
But, of course everyone looks very tall to me... and I can wear the highest heels and still be the shortest one among my friends.

As I'm intersexed and my testosterone was always abysmally low (as was my estrogen in perimenopausal ranges forever, since they were first measured)... that's what I surmise happened to me.  You hit the nail on the head on that one.  I'm taller than anyone anywhere in my entire known family & lineage.

Gosh... I have never heard that before !!!!! ;) 8)

I like wearing my high heels but where I live that is not a common occurrence and the weather does not always permit it.
Ahhh, The joys of living in a small remote town....  but at my office, particularly in good weather you will find me with a dress or skirt and heels...  I can get paid for bigger bills that I send to my clients that way...   LOL :)

Perhaps that is why I seem to attract a few suitors, many of the women here almost never wear a dress or a skirt and definitely not heels... at least not very often.   Suitor #4 is about the only one that seems to dress up nicely.

I myself don't wear dresses often usually important things to me you know of an important therapist visit or doctor's visit at least one that I consider important but I do wear heels like whenever I get the chance I especially like the wedges because he can get a little bit better balance on them

Answers dot com gives an interesting explanation of the effects of estrogen and testosterone on the epiphyseal plates.  It is estrogen that seals them but at puberty in boys, testosterone CONVERTED into estrogen does the job.  Ironically, boys castrated before puberty lacked estrogen BECAUSE they lacked testosterone:

Why are eunuchs taller?

The following is on the same subject but I think that there is no additional information:

Why do boys that are castrated before puberty have greater average height

Both articles confirm that estrogen seals the plates although, I think, the second does not mention the conversion.

It does look to me as though trans girls given T-blockers at the start of puberty COULD become unnecessarily tall if they are not started on estrogen at the same time.  However, I gather that doctors DO NOT usually prescribe estrogen to early pubescent trans girls at the same time as they prescribe T-blockers, and sometimes not for years afterwards!

HRT did not make me taller.  Before HRT I was almost 5'5" and after 3 1/2 years of HRT I now barely break 5'4".  My shoe size went down ONE full size....   so for me HRT made me shrink... in lots of ways.

Danielle
