I keep telling mum to cycle the stuff in her freezer, who knows how old some of it is? 3 months is the longest they say to keep stuff . Chicken stock and some pork chops are the oldest in my freezer.

Made it to the workshop, stopped of at mums and my sister was there.  Brother in law has come down with a cough, no sympathy from my sister!! I managed to get the VW engine bottom end together, have to set the crank end float next but my dial gauge is broke.

I think that is the British word for "clock". 

(or is it a caliper for precision measuring?)

I was thinking it may be like a micrometer.

A dial gauge is a type of micrometre, round gauge with a needle and scale driven by a plunger. I dropped it and its bent some place so sticks.

Plans messed up for today, woke early and heard my lads band played on local BBC radio as they are featured band of the week in the Introducing slot. Trouble was I went back to sleep and woke late (again) and cant come round. Also coughing up chunks again so stayed home to try and recover.

Better again today and slept properly, did dream about building a wooden frame house and telling the folks building it to use joist hangers to hold it together. Weird! Stayed at home again, bit peed of as looks like the VW engine I am building will be no good as the rear main bearing is moving in the case. Engine case is scrap and I was hoping to sell a built engine to raise money to get a V8 for the new car. Always the same for me, never enough money and its not like I need loads just a little.

That's all the Christmas cake ,mince pies and nearly all the cheese and crackers disposed off. Not good for the waist line! Back on the eat sensible tomorrow!

Stayed up to see the New Year in, London put on a good firework display (no wonder their house tax went up 70%) .Watched Sophie Ellis-Bextor's (murder on the dance floor) new years party till 12.30 so was gone 9 when I got up this morning. Calendar to mark up all the birthdays on now (I can never remember them all) but its a laid back day, hope my reader has a good time!

Thanks Chrissy, well winter has turned up. Frozen car this morning and its first food shopping Thurs of the year, long range said cold all next week and thats a bummer as want to get my panel van sorted.

Freezing again today, 9.50 and cant decide if I want to go to my very cold workshop. Need to sort some twin Webber carbs out as I might have a sale but its only 2C and I cant afford to heat my workshop. Well I say cant afford but would rather spend the money elsewhere. Band of snow forecast for tomorrow as well as a warm wet system hits the cold air, 11C on Sunday with rain so might wait till then. Also this cold thing I have is still hanging on a bit and I dont want to make it worse.
  Cooked some coconut tartlets as had some pastry left over from the pie, checked them after recipe time and pastry still raw in bottom so put them back in and over cooked them. Still taste okay, have a pint of milk to use up as well. Not sure what to make with that, Semolina?

Now my reader knows I have a tendency to go back to sleep when I wake in the morning, well this morning it was a record!! Woke at 7.30 and put the radio on, listened to the news at 8 and next thing I knew it was 10.30 ! Day home then so washed my hair, made scrambled eggs and toast for "brunch" and its 12.30 and still catching up on the lap top. Still frosty outside ,looks like the snow will miss us tonight and its warmer tomorrow like 5C and wet.

Hadrian's Wall which was built in Northern England, and
Antonine Wall, which was built in Scotland?


The Romans had a vast empire.  They made some amazing things, they seem quite advanced for their time.

Only Morgan cars I had anything to do with were for annual safety checks (MOT) , not been that far north but seen some Roman remains in a few places and yes they were good builders.
