Do you like puddings?

I have learned that there are some puddings that have meat in them, I gather that is a U.K.
kind of thing.  Me being unsophisticated and certainly not royalty am thinking of puddings like chocolate, vanilla, tapioca, butterscotch, etc. that can be found at least in the USA.

What puddings do you like?

Yes, of course, you can mention those U.K. puddings.

That spotted dick sounds like the name for a bad disease!

However after looking it up, it does sound like something worth trying out.

Yeah you folks in the US kind of only mean one thing when you use the word "Pudding". Which, in the UK we have no real equivalent of. In the UK we have several different kinds of puddings. Steak and Kidney pudding is so absurdly addictive... it's a suet pudding. Which basically means it's made of mostly fat. But damn it's so moreish for a carnivore like me.

Black pudding too. Which is basically blood and oats and herbs all stuffed into a sausage casing. But they don't just pour in blood these days. It's very hygienic and freeze dried and you'd likely never even know. Not like the old way of making it.

In the UK... we tend to call "pudding" any form of dessert. Especially up North. Where Dinner is Lunch, and Tea is Dinner, lol. Quirks of the language. Sponge pudding, like Spotted Dick, yeah, or treacle pudding. All utterly gross to me but many Brits love them, lol. Apparently good with custard or clotted cream.

So... yeah, you folks have one kind of pudding, we have loads. ;D What you call pudding, I'd call Angel Delight. Which is this weird mousse gloopy thing.

Loads of people do. Figgy pudding, as it's referred to in the Christmas Carol, refers to a traditional British Christmas pudding. And that's kind of a huge deal over here. People make it literally a year in advance and keep it under their bed. Steeped in alcohol. It could probably be used to propel amateur rockets by the time it's brought out to consume. Then doused in brandy and set alight. It's kind of a big tradition in the UK.

Sounds like a USA fruitcake.

Yeah it kind of is. Very similar probably. It's as dense as a Donald Trump brainstorming session. Probably as flammable. The fruitiest of fruitcakes. I can't stand it personally. Partly because I am teetotal, but partly because I just don't like desserts. Even if you have to throw a Molotov on them to make them impressive. People go mad for them at Christmas though. Like turkey. It's a tradition thing I suppose.

There is one exception. I do like a good egg custard. If it's done properly. Not too sweet, cinnamon, nutmeg. Baked into a tart rather than poured over something else. That is yummy. That or Tiramisu. Made with really good, strong coffee. I could eat that all day. Because it's not sweet.
