One thing that really helped me is makeup. I know a lot of younger GG's and TS's do not wear makeup
but I think for me anyway, the only chance I have of passing is learning to use it to hide my male flaws.

It's weird, makeup DOES seem to look great on most people, but for me... I've always thought it somehow made me look MORE male, lol. Now, maybe I'm just not using it properly, but somehow things like eyeliner just seem to "harden" my features. And foundation makes my skin look more rough (plus I hate the feel of it).

Sooo... it's just lip gloss for me ;)

One thing I've noticed is that the more natural you are, the better you pass. Less is more. Sometimes adding TOO many feminine touches just highlights the masculine traits through contrast. I swear I'm more passable in a T-shirt and jeans without any makeup and my hair tied back than I am in a dress and heels and all done up, lol.

~Kate~

I never wear make and if I do it looks worse on me also....make up will make you look more male and if you do wear make up make sure it's the bare minimum..

I prefer a natural look and I try and get a really clear complexion and clear skin. Everything you've said in your message is right Kate....and the T shirt, jeans, boots and hair tied up is the way I dress....I always try and get as far away as I can from the stereotypical transsexual image......

If someone doesn't pass without make up I don't think they would automatically pass with it either.....any male features they have will only be highlighted more with make up..

Whatever your doing your doing it right because in your pics it doesn't look like your wearing make up.....but that doesn't mean it works for everyone..

Hi Berliegh,

There is no way I'd even try to pass without makeup. In my case it makes all the difference in the
world and the more the better in my opinion. I don't think for me highlights anything male or makes
anything standout more. But I'm sure face structure has a lot to do with it.

But I have always liked the way women look that wear makeup though and that may be part of it,
I'm just gravitating toward what I like to see on women. It may also be regional as I live in a city
where most women wear a lot of makeup unless they are young and have great skin. It really is
amazing the imperfections that you can cover up.

Plus I love to do it, it's so much fun. :)

Well I have to say that if the way you are doing makeup accentuates your male features, there's a good chance you are not doing it correctly.  I have seen some really good makeup artists work some wonders on some male features.  Though I have passed wearing only a bare minimum of makeup, the best thing I ever did was to go get a makeover by who someone who knew what she was doing.  And I made her teach me how to do it.  I'll never do it as well as she can, but I'm much, much better after that session.  It's great for your confidence as well.

I wasn't referring to me personally but a lot of Transsexuals do look worse with make up than without......but as you say some look better. I can wear make up or not wear make up, but I prefer not to wear make up as I don't need to. If I do I wear make it's very little.  I think it's whatever you think suits your own criteria..

A lot of it has to do with age also... if I had skin like Rachel's I wouldn't wear foundation either, but for
me it's a requirement :) Maybe a peel or micro-dermabration will help down the road a little but there
is a so much that needs to come before that :)

Kristi: I used a makeup artist as well and I highly recommend it to everyone, especially anyone that
might have trouble passing. And you are so right it helps your confidence greatly. Makup artists (and makeup)
can truly work wonders. :)

I still think very little or no make up works best for most transsexuals....
  •

Rachael

I disagree...
transsexuals need makeup as much as natal women.... some need it, some dont, but one thing is common.... NOBODY needs bad  makeup, GOOD makeup on the other hand, can make anyone look better... that is the key.

That was the basic structure of what I meant to say but you put it across much better than I did...

We all have our own way of doing things and for my own criteria I prefer not to wear much make up. I wore far more in the early days in the 90's but realised I looked better without it or with very little...

If i could be bothered to learn, i might, but liner, shaddow and scara does me fine for a night out with some lippy or just vaseline...
