The Kate Bornstein gender aptitude test

Okay so many of those questions needed more choices.  And I could easily tell how my score was going to be affected by choosing 1, 2, 3, or 4.  So that alone might have biased my answers.  And I kind of wish I could be the kind of person that constantly answered with the last response!  That must be fun ... my favorite response was "gender is what happens to me when I get dressed in the morning."

Anywho, I was officially a Gender Outlaw, but my score was 100 ... one less than the next one up, which I honestly felt I identified with much more.  Oh well.  Making mountains out of molehills.

I agree with you it was easy to see throught the questions but in that final analysys there was only one question that was the closest to my ideals answer, which is the way to herd responses into categories. Some of the questions were clever and actually learned from them. I think this what is called "The Hawthorne Syndrome" when the question biases the response because the asking the question makes the interviewed person aware of an issue and self corrrects herself sort of the Miller effect in electronics ... it was fun  ... I love this little distractions.

Gee, it's like you have one hand in respectability and the other hand someplace where both of you like it. You're not always taken for 'normal', are you? In fact, you probably get an infrequent but regualar bout of the gender willies from time to time, don't you? And a lot of this gender stuff is probably kinda new to you ... a little scary and a little thrilling, right? Maybe it's time to explore exactily what scares you. Well, having read the book the message I got from it was basically, throw away all your ideas about gender and what you should be and just be yourself. I didn't quite see the need personally to take it to quite the extreme that Bornstein does - but I think the test has something to do with how attached we are to the traditional gender binary.

Yeah..I think you're right.  Kate Bornstein has said many times (including in her book gender outlaw) that she may not be female after all but a combination of both genders or a totally different gender...okaaay.... whatever burts your bubbles

P.S.   I took this stupid test again and I got a 89 = outlaw....hmmm...the last time I took it I was a well gendered woman.  what happened?  oh no..I've been demoted to outlaw...blaaaahh!

Honey, you're too far gone to make the climb back up to 'real' man or 'real' woman, working not only on your own gender, but the subject of gender itself for quite some time, huh? I'm willing to bet things are still a bit scary and a bit serious for you in your life. Your next step would be to let yourself explore some of the place that really thrill you, no matter the social taboos. Just be kind and compassionate when you are doing it.

I took this some time ago and I can see where my answers have changed.

   Maybe we are changing your perceptions.  Many people are turning up here claiming to be both or neither gender.  You'll always be a woman, but maybe we are affecting your perceptions concerning possibilities.

    I don't know what it means either.  I would put you down as changing.  I think the more we associate here, the less 'restrictive' we become in general.
    Just a thought.

LOL    She could be both actually!  >  She is a post-op transsexual woman and a writer.  IMO her views regarding transsexuality are a bit odd for my taste, but she does make some excellent points in her book Gender Outlaw.

hmm, this test is crud, half the answers i didnt want to give. and it gave no answer that i found suitable. most of it assumed either you were a non trans member of one sex, a bat->-bleeped-<- crazy ->-bleeped-<-, a gender bender, or somewhere near androgyne. i felt it was limiting and confuseing.

BUT!!! Her use of the word "gender" seriously confuses me, so many questions confused me as well...

i got a 92 - im the same, a lot of her phrasing REALLY confused me too

i found sometimes i couldnt answer any of the options - and some were just ridiculous
