What if a gender identity test says that you are indeed feeling and behaving like the opposite gender? What if you find that you are unable to live as you are since you exhibit all the characteristics of the opposite gender?

Nothing! They are totally unreliable!  Be true to yourself and find a good therapist instead!

Agreed. They are all "stereotype-identity" tests.

A little perhaps, but not a great deal. Although, I feel the results of the tests i've taken actually do represent who I am.

The two problems that I can see is that the questions aren't specific enough, and, that they seem to have a focus on behavior rather than identity, so some people could theoretically get a result that indicates the wrong gender, simply because they engage in non-stereotypical activities, even if they already know for certain their gender.

But I do like them all the same, and I think there is some value to them, but only you and a professional can decide for certain your real gender.

They should make a Gender Identity Magic 8-ball

They have, the COGIATI!! >:D

LOL  ;D you know, several years ago when I was still pre-everything, I took the so called Cogiati.  My results were: Possible transsexual.  Well, duh, tell me something I don't know.  Then last year (I believe) I took it again just for fun (not that believe in it or anything) and my results turned out to be androgyne::)
But yes I agree, this test is totally stereotyped and shouldn't be taken seriously at all!

Odd article.

And you can learn a lot from gender tests. Just take one, and notice how you feel about the result. If it feels right, the test was correct, and if you feel the test got it wrong... it probably did! :)

I guess in the end all that we have at this moment in time is how we feel about our body, our gender and our place in society. No tests to see if one is transsexual or something. I'm not sure yet if that is a good or a bad thing.

"So you feel like you are the opposite gender from your body?"
"Yes sir / ma'am."
"Well, this bloodtest here says that there is nothing wrong with you. Next please."

I wouldn't be surprised if it would turn out like that. Genetic comfirmation is great when it says what you want it to see, but imagine trying to convince a doc you really are transsexual when the tests say you're not...  :-\

Yes, me too. around a year ago, about the same time that I thought i was an androgyne, I took the COGIATI and got "Androgyne". After I decided to transition I did it again, and got "possible transsexual" too.. hehe

Yea, personality tests are a psuedo-science as is handwriting analysis, not sure how much good therapy is either, but it's great fun as people love talking about themselves .. :)

Therapy does seem to do the therapist more good then the therapee, unless you call someone metaphorically sticking needles in you - theraputic .. ooouch !
