I am really beginning to consider shaving all my hair lately, because I am being forced to sit at a stand-still, and I need answers for myself. Initially, I have stopped myself from doing this because if I am correct, hair grows back faster with each shaving. So, I thought I should be on an anti-androgen first, for the hair amount to decrease. So, I don't want to make a mistake and get caught in a bad position because I started shaving to early, and I still am not completely sure of my gender. Any advice?

Well, hair does grow back quicker the more that you shave it and in some cases (mine) fuller...

Just a little caution as far as that is concerned.

Has anyone ever actually proven this? I was under the impression that it's a fallacy, and the only way shaving makes hair grow "quicker and fuller" was when compared to waxing or another  plucking  method?

No No No,
it is not proven and as a matter of fact most health professionals say it is false. Think about it, when you shave your face everyday does it come back thicker and darker. After say the age of 25 or 30 if this were true you would look like a werewolf every morning. I shave my body and have no problems with growing back-I alwya had little to no body hair and still have very little to none - no changes.

Things like waxing a Nair last longer. Nair is a cream you put on and leave on for something like 5 minutes, then wipe off. It melts the hair follicles. Test a small area first in case you have sensitive skin. It really can burn on the bikini area, just to let you know. (Yes, when I lived as a girl, I was into hair removal.)

All I know is that before I shaved my legs the hairs were blond and now they're darker and longer. But with you girls, I doubt it should get any darker and thinker; testosterone has really made your hair as dark and thick as it should get.

Sounds like pruning flowering plants to make them grow back faster.
Hair does not grow back faster, thicker, etc.  It just doesn't.

Shave with abandon.

Everyone is different but the most common reason it seems that hair grows thicker and faster after shaving is most people start shaving before all the hair follicles are fully active.
I used to shave my chest and if it were true, I'd be hairier than a gorilla. And I never shaved my back and had more hair there than on my chest.
Thank goodness the hormone therapy worked it's magic. The only problems I have with hair now are the little white whiskers most women my age have to deal with.

one reason people think hair is growing back thicker and darker, is because shaving cuts the hair blunty
so its thick blunt shaft you see growing as it comes back rather then a thin newly growing hair that I suppose removing the entire hair gives (waxing etc)

other benefit of removing the hair entirely is that shaved hair has a habit of digging back into the skin with its sharp cut end causing that red rash and ichyness.

hi all,

I have never shaved apart from my beard. I use an epilator that pulls out the hair from the root. It hurts like hell the first time but after even 2/3 times the hair comes out no probs. After one year my hair has become thiner and finer and almost disappeared on my chest. No cost of having to wax just the epilator and some electric. I would really recommend this way as I did have a dark hairy chest (As you can see in the pic, lol).

As far as hair on my chest, I did nothing but my hrt.  I went from having a sparsely populated hairy chest to smooth as any natal woman.  No, I WON'T show a pikky, but trust me, ...... smooth as a baby's bottom.  The arms' hair got thinner and thinner, and now I epilate.  Since that, less and less comes back.  If I let it grow back, it would be no more hairy than many natal females' arm hair.  Legs....yeah, I have to shave about every 5 days.  No, nuthin else below the neck grows hair (wish my head would grow some extra hair).

So not true. I have been shaving for years and have no extra thicker hairs growing than I ever did. Shave it if you want to.

Yeah it definitely won't come back any thicker.  The only reason as it has been stated before that it seems hair is coming in thicker is because it was always going to regardless of shaving.  In natal men, the beard takes a while to fully develop and most start shaving before then.  It seems like the shaving is making it grow faster but it's not.

Hair grows in stages when you shave sometimes it appears that it grows thicker because of the different stages. I would highly recomend getting waxed it last longer and the stages of regrowth are slowed. Something I discovered unexpectedly was how erotic being smooth can be, maybe it's just me......

Shave it all, girl!

The first time you get out of a baby-oiled bubble bath fully shaven, and then get dressed.....wow.  I will NEVER forget the feeling of that silk blouse against my freshly shaven arms....

You've nothing to lose but hair itself.  GO FOR IT.

I never shave, I wax with sugar. The stubble from shaving that quickly grows back is intolerable to me. Epilate it by some method like waxing, and it will stay gone for weeks. Epilation gets you smoother, for longer, than is possible with shaving. Besides, good razor blades are awfully expensive, especially if you shave your body frequently. Sugar is cheap.

Hi I must agree with Stardust and Miss Bev. Epilating also had the best results for me and I did once have thick dark hair on chest arms and legs. Thankfully nothing on the back. The very first thing I tried was an epilator but it didn't work to well because of the constant regrowth of hairs the next morning It felt like I hadn't epilated at all. Goodness the itching nearly drove me up the wall. When at work I certainly didn't have the liberty to scratch every time I got an itch, every one would have thought I had a bad case of fleas or something. So I shaved for about five years, then I noticed something, I wasn't getting as many shaving nicks, so I tried once more using the epilator three years later I didn't have any body hairs to speak of but still epilate my body every 10 days.

As for the facial hair I was never fortunate enough to be able to afford electrolysis or laser so I got some Vaniqa. I cream in a tube that I applied to my face twice a day, I don't have any facial hair after using Vaniqa for 8 years what little I do have would take about three days before I would actually be able to feel it. My facial hair as well has thinned out considerably, not much thicker then feminine hair.

Hi Findingreason, I am not to certain what it is you are inquiring about. As for the hair shaving it off in the hopes of growing it back fuller and thicker, won't happen, you grow back exactly what you cut off, just have to wait for it to grow and if you don't like having a shaved head to go out in public then you will have to either wear a tuke or a baseball cap on your head for several months even up to a year, depending on how fast your hair grows.

I have heard where trimming the hair would work well is for shoulder length or longer hair anyway is what often happens you get what is called split ends so if you cut off a half inch from the ends will encourage the hairs to grow back in faster and healthier.

Using anti androgen is reasonably safe to use if you are not certain about your transitioning yet, but only for a limited amount of time.

It isn't that trimming the ends does anything for hair growth per se. The hair grows from the follicles under the skin, and trimming the ends several inches away can have no effect on the follicles. Unless you postulate a current of mystic force released by the cutting that travels up the hair shaft and into the follicle. Actually, though, hair is lifeless matter. The only living part is the follicle.

Trimming split ends is a preventative measure to protect the hair shafts from damage. If the split isn't removed, it can travel up the shaft, and weaken it to where it breaks off, resulting in loss for your head of hair. Trimming gives you solid ends that preserve the hair shaft instead of degrading it.

Thank you for that information professor Hypatia. Ok I guess that blows away another urban legend. Well Anyway I just know that the results is for healthier hair. I guess I better discard my diploma on hair growth.   ;D
