Hi,

I sent this to the white house and VP cheney (the baby killer as he's known within his family).

It's not great. I know I can do better, but what do you want from a knock-off?

QuoteHi,

I've had this idea for a while concerning the safety of the United States and its' citizens. It's pretty simple and I thought of it by studying the events of our recent history.
It seems to me that the country would be better off if people running for federal offices, especially President and Vice-President were given a completely public physical exam, an emotional assessment by impartial experts (probably from Sweden), and an intelligence test.
This occurred to me because something is seriously wrong with the country. Wars, bailouts, governing malfeasance, and very strange behavior on the part of government officials. I mean, a regular corporation would drug test it's employees, so why not the government?
I believe testing candidates before they run is fair, it'll weed out candidates who are off balance or who are incapable of fully comprehending the seriousness of government duty. I don't want to point fingers, but let's face it, Rudy Giuliani is not the best person to be running for a national position. I have a feeling his psych exam would bear this out.  I'm not certain of his physical health either. At any rate, it would have provided a spot for a different candidate who might not have caused his crowds terrible anxiety and queasiness. It would have saved a lot of wasted campaign money and maybe aided in the Republican party getting across its message much more clearly. Again, I don't mean to pick on Giuliani. I'm only using him as an example.

Anyway, it's just a thought. I don't know if you would agree, but if you do, please start a bill or something.

Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

Thanks. I was trying to be light in my tone, but I was serious.

I like your idea Rebis, but I have two problems with it.

1) There wouldn't be any candidates left. Anyone who runs for a position like that is inherently mad/unstable. I know three parliamentary candidates and their psychological insecurities are what make them do the job (and indeed do the job well). Actors and writers would have the same trouble I guess.

2) If they aren't mad to begin with, they certainly would be by the end. Power corrupts, and fame makes barmy. Now give someone a famous position of power...

Cheney said this
QuoteThank you for e-mailing Vice President Cheney.  Your comments,
suggestions and concerns are important to him.  Unfortunately,
because of the large volume of e-mail received, the Vice
President cannot personally respond to each message.  However,
members of the Vice President's staff consider and report
citizen ideas and concerns.  Please visit the White House web
site for the most up-to-date information on Presidential
initiatives, current events, and topics of interest to you.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

In the real version of my plan, I don't mean to weed out people who are just a little buggy. It's for the absolute psychos, the ones without empathy, and the ones who truly show no interest in government/civics/history and such.

I got this one from the white house.
QuoteOn behalf of President Bush, thank you for your correspondence.

We appreciate hearing your views and welcome your suggestions.

Due to the large volume of e-mail received, the White House cannot respond to
every message.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

so... it seems like they are paying a lot of attention to me. I hope they don't allow something important to go undone while they consider my proposal.   :)
