pockets of heartbreak

been a while since i have seen enough daylight
to even think about writing about the things
going on for us.... me and my FtM blessing

school really sucks for him....
we just recently had a big drama-fest
with all his teachers, most of whom
keep calling him by the wrong pronouns
even tho the boy shows up in a suit coat
and tie every blessed day!!!

i wrote him an excuse for being late to school
this morning simply saying:
his tardiness is a reflection of the
truth that life is hard in the real world...

this morning, after he left, i went online
to start digging up the info we need to
get his name changed....
i am hoping it will boost his spirits a little
to actually know he will soon have legal
claim to being adrien michael

in the course of filling out the paper work
i just broke down and cried....
writing his birth name and remembering
how it felt to chose that name and then
register his birth.....
i dunno.... just feels like something is ending...
for all time....
a good bye i could not have imagained i would make......

maybe it isnt really a heartbreak....
just a profound melancholy....
but the tears are just as wet

if you happen to read this, adrien
i love you (((((baby boy))))))

All I can say is HUGS. It is a loss for you. The fact that you are standing by him and loving him and supporting him through all of this - that makes you amazing.

I hope everything goes well with the name change, and please pass a huge "Good Luck" along to Adrien for dealing with school.

Blessed be, both of you.

So... you're filling out his new birth certificate for him. Kinda fitting, no? You've done both and all that wonderful raising in-between. Bittersweet isn't always a bad thing; the sweet parts of it can be quite wonderful, in fact.

big old (((((hugs back))))))) to all that were offered

not the birth certificate yet,
just the preliminary petition to
the court for change of name....

hopefully we can get it notarized this noon
so i can file it before end of business today

on a brighter note, we have just gotten the proof
of his professionally photographed portrait that will
be in his packet that is going out to local and
not so local venues trying to arrange a "tour" for him this spring....

from my POV i think it is stunning...
he says his eyes look goofy

Well, because it's one of the things I know pretty well I can say the photo is OK, but what gets the gig is the demo, the first 10-15 seconds of it at that.  That's about how long it takes these people - who listen to this stuff day in and day out for a living - to decide if its going to work for them.  The demo is everything in that biz.  The packet - press kit, or just kit if you prefer - is pro forma, so what really stands out, the only thing really, is the stuff on the demo.  After all, you're booking music, not quotes and a photo.

And don't send the kit and demo to the venue, it will just wind up in the trash.  Find the name of the person who does the booking and send it to them personally, and follow up.  Even better if you can get to that person ahead of time so they are expecting it in some sense.  The problem with the venue is that all a booker needs is a phone and some way to play music, so they tend to work elsewhere.  They only show up at the clubs to meet the band, so it tends to be later in the show at that, or backstage.

hey tekla!

thank you for your interest and input!"
i might just come around asking the questions
only the oblivious could ask..... ???

fortunately he has a grasp of the things you mentioned....
he has a CD being mastered even as we speak
and a brother in the twin cities who is on the
"fringe" of the business, a former student at
a technical institute for production and recording
so he has connections with managers and producers

his voice teacher is prodding  me to get him started
hence the scurry to pull together the elements of a kit....

since i couldnt carry
a tune in a bucket,
my purview is related to
the non-musical elements....

Neither can half the acts I hear, so don't let that stand in your way.  In the same sense that when I encounter civilians from outside the industry they will always end up telling about someone they know who is 'really, really good' and I have to assure them that talent is only a small part of the deal.  It's the entertainment industry, and first and foremost you have to be entertaining, which seems so obvious, but I know its not.

Now after some 30+ years in the biz I know I would not wish that life on my worst enemy, still, there seem to be no end of people who lust for it.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Sometimes my mother feels the same way.
I'm a good deal older than your son but she's still not ready for me to be on hormones or legal name change.
I imagine it's very hard to give birth to a daughter only to find out years later you had a son.
