I'm here!!! A fresh out of the box newbie in search of knowledge. An amazingly awesome, yummy chick told me about this site last night and I was sooo taken in that I didn't get to bed until 6am. I had so many questions and after spending all those hours looking through loads of posts and links my questions tripled.

I kind of feel like it's my 1st day of school and I'm TERRIFIED!!! And here are the reasons why:

1) I'm afraid to ask questions because the answers may be common knowledge, and I hate feeling like I'm the ONLY one thats unaware.

2) I'm worried about talking to anyone because I'm terribly afraid that my curiosity might run wild and I'll end up asking something that offends them.

3) I feel like my desire to learn more will make it seem as though I'm perceiving the transgendered community as an experiment; that I'm to observe and better understand. And I so don't think of anyone here as an experiment. (Why do i feel like I'm wording this wrong.)

4) From what I hear, the majority of non-transgendered individuals that are curious about the transgendered community are perverts, and I don't want to be clustered into the perv category.

So as of now I figure it may be better to just keep quiet and learn as much as I can on my own, until I get past my worries.

Random facts about me: 23 year old, bio-girl that has a bio-boyfriend. I've never dated a female, but I have had strong feelings for one. I love art (sketching, music, etc..), traveling, Asialand, and chocolates.

Believe me you are not the only one.  I think that it is safe to say that everyone here at Susan's was in your position at one time or another, myself included, so we understand how you feel.

Quote2) I'm worried about talking to anyone because I'm terribly afraid that my curiosity might run wild and I'll end up asking something that offends them.

Most here have pretty thick skins and are not easily offended, in fact some of us are quite blunt and to the point.  As long as your questions are in line with the rules you will be okay.

Quote3) I feel like my desire to learn more will make it seem as though I'm perceiving the transgendered community as an experiment; that I'm to observe and better understand. And I so don't think of anyone here as an experiment. (Why do i feel like I'm wording this wrong.)

Many arrive at Susan's with no idea on why they are here, but they are here for many reasons.  There's nothing wrong for being curious and observing, but please stay away from the word "Experiment." :)

Quote4) From what I hear, the majority of non-transgendered individuals that are curious about the transgendered community are perverts, and I don't want to be clustered into the perv category.

You heard wrong.  True there are perverts out there and possibly here, but certainly not the majority.

I think that there is an old saying somewhere that reads something like this... "It is far better to remain quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it." :)

Enjoy your stay.

Suzy

A big welcome to you, and thanks for posting an intro.

All of us have been where you are, so don't worry about it.  Really!  I know how terrifying it can be to put one toe into this water.  Just relax and realize you are not alone.

As has been mentioned, we are a rather eclectic bunch, but we manage to get along fine, even when we disagree.  So don't be afraid to ask your questions.  It might be just the thing to start a great discussion!

Peace!

Hi, hisnfi です;

I can't add anything to what's already been posted.  There IS a lot of information -- trying to get it all in one gulp will be like drinking from a firehose.

I do have one question, though...  どうして貴方の名前には日本語文字が使っていましたか?

Understood.  For my part, Japanese characters just jump out at me.  Real-time conversation, though, is still a bridge too far...
