I Can Open My Own Door, Thank You, Sir

I witnessed change on my campus when a friend and I led a discussion on gender to talk about masculinity, sexism, and transgender issues. The purpose of this discussion was to deconstruct gender norms that have assigned separate rules and behaviors for males and females — from who wears blue and pink, to who must care for the children, and to something as minute as a man opening doors for women.

I think we've been through this before, but I hold door open for everyone, its just common manners.

They are to give their seats to elderly passengers on a train or bus.

These days, if you suggested that a kid stand for another person, you'd probably get stabbed.
In fact, people have been stabbed on the tube in London simply for suggesting that teens turn their cellphones down when listening to music on them out loud.

My post was in regard to my own children
So I gathered.  ;)
My post was more a social commentary on how society has gone a rather downhill.
Gawd, I sound like my grandma.

Agreed.  It irritates me when people make a big deal about it.  If a guy can't stand to have me open a door for him, he's got issues. :P

Good Manners are disapearing. When we look at why why did this social network of manners develop I think it was to protect people from each other. Yes some could argue sexism, but I fail to see standing and allowing a pregnant woman to sit on a bus/train etc is sexist. I fail to see deferring to the elderly as ageism. Loss of our social interaction will lead to dysfunctional society. DUHH we reached it.
I think this is fun. Walk around with a big smile on your face, not cheesey but  a happy look. You will be amazed on the way people react  to you. Next day walk around with a nasty or aggressive or withdrawn look and watch the same people.
It's quite stunning.
One of the reasons we are on this web is that we seek respect from others.
Good manners are what we seek

Are you daft?!?!  I'm not gonna tell a strange kid that.  They might bust a cap in my ass.  LOL  My post was in regard to my own children, who I have complete dominion over and who will be obeyed if they'd like to keep their teeth in place.

*DISCLAIMER* I in no way abuse, advocate the abuse, think about abusing, or think about paying others to abuse my children.  All abusive comments are for illustrative purposes only.  This disclaimer is void wherever family trees don't fork.

i'm so ROFLMFAO!!!!!

and i rarely go places to hold doors open for others, i usually have my hands full with two lil ones so people hold them for me, or they let me go through the automatic doors first. ;D
