Trying to bargain for a haircut.

Soooo. About a month and some weeks ago I asked my mother for a buzzcut. She...flipped out.

BUT, looking back at the conversation, it started out like this:

Me: I want a haircut.
Her: How short?
Me: Uhh. Shorter than what I have now. [I have a ponytail.]
Her: Like short for two ponytails?
Me: Shorter.
Her: Okay well I could do a little shorter, but what do you mean?
Me: Like Adam. [my brother]
Her: -flipout-

So what I'm thinking is, since I have terrifically curly hair, I could just cut it cut to the length that she was still okay with before I said like Adam, and try to pull a Corbin Bleu. Well, not that big of an afro, but about 2/3rds the length. Maybe show her a few pictures of some girls with afros to make it "acceptable." Then she'd think I'd still look like a girl with an afro, but I won't. But it's okay cause she won't figure that out until after it's gone. ;D

I've never had my hair that short, well I have, but I never wore it down, so I don't know how it would look. What do you guys think? That's me in my avatar pic, and I can scrounge up more pics if you need.

Thanks. :)

go to a barber, they will do what ever you pay them to do.+

If it were just a problem of getting the haircut done, I could've just stolen my father's clippers and done it months ago. I'm still a minor, and thus getting a haircut without approval will mean lots of bad consequences.

In my case it came from not having cut my hair for four years.  But WTF could they do.  I left home at 17 at any rate.  Never looked back, parents came around.

Chet: Long enough that I might as well try asking for a compromised haircut. >.>

I love Corbin Bleu <3

now thats out of the way =P the actual reply, it sounds good to me, even moderately short is gonna look better than really long

I was never one to listen to the parents, I woulda grabbed some scissors and chopped it all off way before now without even considering asking

Personally, I would pull a tekla and just go get it cut.  You don't have to have ID at the barber's.  Then again, I don't really care about pleasing my parents, and they would not care.  Heck, lately they've been bugging me to get a haircut.  Well, anyway, it's probably best to get them used to you defying their rule now.  Preparation for your eventual adulthood, transition, and hopefully your autonomy.

uh... huh?  it is your hair.  not like you're getting a tattoo.  i've never heard of needing approval to get a haircut.

go to a supercuts etc. and ask them to buzz it off.  one around here will give a buzz cut for 10 bucks.

hair grows back, hopefully.

Yeah I didn't know about the being a minor thing. I've been able to get haircuts on my own since I started working, 16.

But you might wanna try what you're thinking anyway. Getting your hair cut too short can make you look more feminine.

Minor thing being that I still live with my extreme anti-gay/trans parents, and they can make life extremely difficult. They already did when I asked for the buzz, and that wasn't even getting it, just asking.

Well in your profile picture I think you look quite masculine but then I suppose you are hiding your hair.  I dunno maybe that could be the answer, not ideal but a compromise until you move out.

If you really cannot bear it my advice to you is just do it.  But do try and get permission from your peeps first, I know first hand how much trouble it can cause if you don't and I'm sure that's the last thing you need right now.

get a stoner cut....

looks masculine without it being ultra short... for me this really helps to hide some of the more female facial features

The cut can be perceived as feminine enough by parents if worn a certain way but if you shake it out its quite masculine.

Your face is quite masculine in your pic with your hair out of your face so it wouldn't be an issue for you I suppose, but personally I hate it when they cut my hair to short.  Makes me look like a butch lesbian as opposed to a dude.

I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I understand your issue completely. I used to have hair down to my ass: my mother ruled my life, still does in some ways, and she's entirely anti-trans. Trying to get my hair cut short without having her freak out on me? It was tough, but I finally managed to get short hair that I'm comfortable with.

Saying that you want it THAT short straight off, while blunt, probably won't help you much in long run. I had to let my mother cut my hair of inch by inch, and with each inch, I had to convince her that it was the right thing to do. If you're not nearly as sissy as I am (heeey, I love my mother) then I say go with everyone else in this thread: just get it chopped off yourself and get ready for the consequences. They'll probably ride themselves out with time. After all, hair grows back. But if you want your mother to be on board with it, then be patient, because some compromises will have to be made.

I cut my own hair, because I just win like that.

So I afro-ed out my hair as is just now, and it looks pretty good, despite it being too long and a bit lopsided. I feel pretty bada** too. ;D Am leaving it like that for the rest of the day to see how my mother reacts. :-\

Wish me luck.

Turns out she doesn't even care about how it looks gender wise. She's just a racist little b*tch and doesn't like it because it makes me look too black.

Oh honestly that woman could die and I wouldn't care. Probably might even be pleased.
