Ok, I got a tri top binder yesterday and oh. my. god.

It chafes.  It's awful.  Do you have ANY suggestions?

Baby powder can reduce chafing.

I don't know what this particular binder is made of--mine has a soft cottony outside shell and a harsh Lycra inside shell. If yours is anything like that, you can just turn it inside out.

Many of us also wear a t-shirt or a-shirt underneath the binder. Adding an extra layer of clothing sucks when the weather is hot, but the itching is considerably reduced.

I do both--wear an a-shirt and turn the binder inside out. But then I have a terrible time taking the binder off, as you might have noticed in a recent thread.

I was also just advised to wear powder, just as Janet suggests.

Sigh. Surgery is looking more and more attractive...

it's the same material on either side.  70% nylon and 30% spandex.  It feels like... really fine mesh tulle.  It's only scratchy right under my armpits, so it's definitely just the problem of it rubbing.

gold bond powder.

as for the under the armpit chafing, i sewed fabric around the 'pit holes to make it softer.

I'm wearing that particular binder right now... and as I was reading the post I realize that, in fact, it is itchy, I've just gotten over it and ignore the sensation because it brings so much relief to me in other ways.

You can also wear a rash guard under the tri-top.  Gets a bit hot in the summer, though.

Not everyone can do this, though. Me, for example. After five or ten minutes in a binder like this, I'd need to see the dermatologist. No exaggeration. Other people might break out into a rash or get raw chafe wounds. Not pretty.

Yeh I get that too  I've worn shirts under it as well as done some alterations because the armpits actually cut into me.  only thing is alterations make the binder not last as long I think
Every day we pass people, do we see them or the mask they wear?
If you live under a mask long enough, does it eventually break or wear down?  Does it become part you?  Maybe alone, they are truly themselves?  Or maybe they have forgotten or buried themselves so long, they forget they are not a mask?

exactly.  Where it was hitting under my armpits was chafing so badly that it's still red and raw 3 days later.  I can't even put it on now until I'm all healed up.

I've been considering buying this binder. Other than being itchy, how is it? Good compression? Can you breathe?

good binder, armholes are a pain but it binds pretty good for those with large moobs.  long as get right size can still breath.  wouldn;t suggest getting it to small.  I got it a size to small once and it caused a lot of pain and cut into the back.  Don't know about smaller moobs though.

The tri-top binds the best of any I've tried. However, the double front compression binds almost as well, and is a lot more comfortable, in my opinion.  The armholes are cut lower, so they don't chafe as badly, and the neck is cut lower as well, so it doesn't stick out and make you look as if you're wearing an armored vest under your clothes.  However, with the larger armholes also comes a tendency to have the moobs want to sneak out the sides a bit.

Both of them have a tendency to roll up, unfortunately.  Personally, I find it more painful having it rolling up around my ribs, as the tri-top does, than having it roll around my waist, as the double-front does.

must be body shape.  I've never had the tritop role up on me, but I found the double-front very painful rolling around my waist.

I use the double front currently, but I'm looking for something... else. I don't know, I guess I'm just tired of it. Want something easier to wear. I don't have the rolling-up issue because I double it over (4 layers of compression) when I wear it. I think smaller armholes might actually be helpful to me.

I like the tri-top a lot. Like a lot of people have mentioned, I also wear a t-shirt under it. That seems to cut back on most of the discomfort. The only places it's uncomfortable are the armpits and when it rolls up in the back and jabs me in the ribs.

I think my favorite thing about the Tri-Top is that it's not as hot because it doesn't go all the way into my pants.  This is why I double up my "double front".  However, that's still hotter than the Tri-Top because the tri-top only has one layer in back, and if you double over your "double front" then you're getting an extra layer that hold in heat all around your body.

Just some personal experience...

Dunno if you're still battling your double front, but today I tried tucking it into my underwear and wearing a fairly wide, sturdy belt, and it didn't roll up on me at all.  Not sure which is the magic element, or if it's a combination of the two, but I thought I'd just throw that out there for people who are having the same issue.
