Because if I do, I pass for a female, and I like that. :x

So, how can I do that?

Wear a scarf or choker?

The only other way I know is to get it chopped off...

You realize that a Adam's apple is not something people look closely at unless they are attempting to figure out your gender.

But yeah, I agree- It should be removed.

unless it is very prominent, I wouldn't worry about it much.. It's not exactly true that only males have them. Women have them, but they are always much much smaller and hardly noticeable unless they tilt their heads back.

An adams apple's an instant tell tell sign you aren't female.  Some women have slight adams apples but they don't have large hands or feet, they aren't tall, they dont talk in baritone voices & they don't have large body & bone structures.  If you want to take the risks fine.  But you've got options like a tracheal shave.

If it concerns you, you should get it removed. You can do this through an FFS surgeon or maybe one of those ear, nose, and throat doctors in you area (I can't remember the medical name for those docs, but some can do it)

Turtlenecks FTW! Just kidding.

A chondrolaryngoplasty (tracheal shave) is often offered as an add-on to SRS.

I had a gg friend who had a pronounced adam's apple, and nobody ever thought she was a guy........

Oh, man, I wish I DID have a prominent Adam's apple.

Sorry. I know what you mean, but I'm coming from the opposite side of the fence. I would kill to have an Adam's apple like my brother's...

I wonder about the seriousness of the operation & the scars you get afterward.

I had my tracheal shaved right back, mine was completely removed same time as my srs, hardly notice the tiny scar, felt like a sore throat for a while with a little bit of numbness, but it gave me some much confidence in myself, a cleavage and an Adam's apple just don't match, I feel more womanly with a nice clearvage but without a dreadful Adam's apple, just my 2cents.

From what I've read, the cartilage that forms the Adams apple hardens with age.  At my age it should be almost as hard as bone.  I worry that it would be too hard to shave without causing problems.  Any experience with older ones?

Really?

So Adams apples are to guys as boobs are to girls?

Not exactly.  Girls don't obsess on Adams Apples.

According to wikipedia it's an outpatient procedure and takes 2-4 weeks for recovery. I assume the cost is relative to the greed of the surgeon.

Hey Jessica, I agree with your weighing whether an adam's apple or a scar is worse.
Fortunately, the scars are very minimal.

You'll have to ask a surgeon where the incision will be.
For older women, the skin is usually loose enough that the incision will be very high up.
That is, about where your thumb would press if you were holding your chin in a thoughtful mood.

A tracheal shave is usually done in combination with other FFS or SRS.
I've seen prices from $1500 to $3000 for an optional add-on.

I'm with Miss Bev on this one, a woman on my bowling league is obviously female but has a very prominent adams apple. Yes if someone is trying to decide what gender you are a prominent adams apple, large hands and over 6' tall, but the clincher would be if you still use a male voice. Using a feminine voice can be the deciding factor.
