did your counselor tell you to do a karyotype test?After that did he give you the approval for Srs? My psychiatrist want me to take a karyotype test and then I guess that he will give me the approval for Srs! But I'm not sure!Did your counselor give you the approval for SRS after the karuotype test?I would be grateful if someone could answer... Thnx you very much!

I would be asking why it is relevant, what will it change for you?
I would want to know if this is just another hoop to jump through or does he suspect something.

My understanding is that it's not a cheap test and its not going to change whether you want to transition or not. In the end it will only satisfy curiosity at best.

Does the counselor plan to refuse you aproval if you get wrong results from the test?

Waste of money, but if it keeps the counselor happy...

He just wants to make sure that anatomically i am "male"! And then he will be able to diagnose gender dysphoria...  and give me the approval perhaps!!! I don't know...!

Ummm, pull your pants down in front of him, that should be enough. You want a recommendation to have that changed, having this test does nothing to obtain that goal.


Find out EXACTLY he hopes to accomplish with it, and what the results will mean before you even consider doing this test. Know what you are going to get from this BEFORE you bother. You want a letter for surgery, not a letter you can show that says "I'm intersexxed". Don't accept "perhaps" know what will happen.


My understanding is that this isn't a cheap test to have done. How many hoops and how much money does one need to spend to get a recommendation.

Strange. I'm having GRS in a month & have never been asked to take a karyotype test.  Maybe it was a suggestion on his part but not a requirement to get you approved for surgery.

I was curious and looked up what does a Karyotype test used for and this is one of the reason:
- Identify the sex of a person by determining the presence of the Y chromosome. This may be done when a newborn's sex is not clear.

And has nothing to do with Gender Dysphoria...   

Anyway, I hope that even if you "fail" the test he'll still give you the recommendation letter for SRS.

I didn't have the test done until decades later - it has nothing to do with "GID"

A real danger of having the test done is that if there is any deviation from the normal XY you will be classed as Intersexed and face a whole new set of hurdles that are a LOT harder to get through than GID.
