Amid criticism from the LGBT community that the Department of Justice
and Congress have largely ignored LGBT concerns since the election of
President Barack Obama, both the House and the Senate have introduced
a bill to forbid workplace discrimination based on gender identity and
sexual orientation.

The House Education and Labor Committee heard testimony Wednesday on
the Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which is currently pending
in the Senate. If passed, the bill would become the first federal ban
on employment discrimination of LBGT workers in the private sector
(religious organizations exempted). Such protections are already
available to employees of the federal government.
