I just came in after a wonderful night of astronomical observing with friends.  Some of them I haven't observed with for over a year.  We had a really good time.  I'm very tired.  It takes a lot out of you to do so much in the dark... referencing manuals and charts, running computers, running up and down ladders, visiting, running back and forth between telescopes. It's not physically demanding so much as mental... and remember... it's all done in the dark.

It's like making yourself blind so that you can see.  Dark adaptation must be preserved so that we can see those faint galaxies so far away.

What a wondrous ritual we have during no moon weekends throughout the year.

Oh... and we've never seen a UFO that we couldn't explain... and we've seen a few.

I'm tired now.  Time for bed.

Last night I as I was leaving the house all dolled-up to go to Pauline's birthday party imy son complimented me on how good I looked. He even jocked that if he did'nt know who I was and had met me somewhere he would have tried to chat me up. It really felt good. Since the party was in the country it was fun driving on deserted roads in the dark and the pelting rain.
When I arrived at their house Pauline  and her SO Bernie said that wanted to introduce me to someone. I followed them to the conservatory where Sandra, Alice, Lolla and Linda were cosily sipping wine listening to the storm outside. Then I noticed somebody else with her back turned, it was Claire!, one of the other founder member of Friends of Eon, we hadn't seen or heard from for over 5 years. It was great to see her again and catch up. We had a great evening reminiscing about the past, the time we were stopped and searched by the Guardai outside the GPO, the Late Late Show, the Pat Kenny Show, the Summer House Show other members, how things and attitudes regarding TGism have changed over the last 25 years etc... The Craic was ninety, we had songs, stories and time just flew, suddenly it was 5am and the day was starting to break.

I spent most of the afternoon messing around with my hair, and didn't really get anywhere with it.

But I still feel beautiful anyway :).

Wait a minute.  You have your own observatory?  Multiple telescopes and such?  Ok, where's the nearest airport Delta flies to and should I rent a car or can you pick me up?  LOL

I'm in Stockholm right now.  So far away from my Parisian life. :(  It's wonderful to see the midnight sun though. ;)
  •

Seshatneferw

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are only about two thirds of the way from Paris to somewhere where you can see the midnight sun -- and not even that far, if you want to see the midnight sun tonight and not some night a month from now.

But yes, you poor French girls, all the nights almost the same length..  >:D

As for the obligatory on-topic note, I'm back home.

As some of you know, I will be moving in less than a month to a town real close to Portland, Oregon... I am going to be seeing my mom, who I haven't actually *seen* for nearly 21 years... It's wonderful, and kinda overwhelming... I hope I don't cry too much hehehe...

I know it's not necessarily today but it just kinda hit me today the impact that it's gonna have... good feeling :)

That's true, but I don't get to go anywhere when I'm home.  :)  I'm supposed to be on business here but I'm also enjoying the Scandinavian life. ;)

Yes, the Scandinavian life is good.  8)

Not that I can really compare it to the French life. My contact with Paris has mostly been limited to the airport, which hates me (they've lost my luggage just about every time I have changed planes there), and besides the language is much harder to learn for me (even at the 'un  :icon_arrow: s'il vous plait' level) than just about any of the others I've had contact with. Still, I know I should get there one of these years.

Anyhow, nice to hear you are enjoying yourself.  :)

I just came back home from shopping my life away.  I bought new, sexy lingerie (I don't know why), but they were extremely cute and on sale!

Hubby told me he wants to go camping this next weekend shortly before he head off to work for the week.  I have mixed feelings about camping right now for various reasons but we haven't had weekend out for years.  It'll be great to get out for a long weekend with him.  So while he's away, I get to get the stuff together and plan the menu.

I suppose I'll just cast work to the wind this week!

I'm back in Paris, and I'm quite happy.  Stockholm was fun but I was there mostly on business.  It's marvelous to be back home.  7:55 a.m. Paris time ;)

Brick and I went camping this holiday weekend.  We haven't been out camping in several years and I can't believe how I've missed it.  We used to back pack on 10 day trips. We'd do 60 to 80 miles on one of those expeditions.  I sometimes wish I still had that kind of stamina!  The dogs weren't all that happy being tied up all the time.  Next time we're going out into some more remote areas where we can let them roam freely.
