A new canine friend came to live with me this past weekend. She's absolutely beautiful and she loves me. I've spent 4 days totally immersed in her company. We've played all day long.
Hubby took the other two pups away for the week so I could help our new friend adjust to her new surroundings. She's been in lockup for two years. She was feisty and had a real nasty habit of biting prospective "owners".
When I went to pick her up, the SPCA rep brought her out on a leash. She could barely hold on to her. Cassie (the dog), was jumping back and forth yanking the poor lady nearly off her feat. I sat down to meet her and she promptly bit my hand drawing a copious amount of blood. I grabbed the nape of her neck and put her down on the ground. I soothed her some and took her for a short walk. As we walked up the road, I explained to Cassie that was inappropriate behaviour. I also told her that she would behave on a leash. When we returned, she was an angel on the leash. In fact, she is better than one of my other "trained" canine friends.
Poor kennel lady had dealt with this dog for two years. Unable to get rid of her, she had resigned herself that Cassie would be living there for the remainder of her life. She was amazed to see her settle down like she did. Frankly, I was as well.
She's turned into a real cuddle bunny. She loves to cuddle and sit on my lap (all 40 pounds of her). Although our yard is "fenced" (a requirement to adopt), it wouldn't keep any animal in. She's been pretty good about sticking around the house.
I'm so thrilled to have her here. I'm liking life today.
