Today I received a crushing review of my writing in another forum.  It brought tears to my eyes.  I felt incredibly inferior.  But the reviewer was right as I realized later. I am now enlightened....  I learned something new.

Oh yeah, the almost-mean ultra-picky reviews are my favorites for that reason...  SOmeone liking my work doesn't help me learn or grow.  Having my flaws publicly railed on lets me know where to go and what to work on next.  As with anything creative, art is a constant journey, not a destination, and if you ever stand still it will pass you by.  Congrats on taking a negative crit and turning into a positive experience!

My childhood friend, Kike, phoned me.  Apparently he had learned about my grandpa's passing.  I was so happy to hear his voice; we remembered my grandpa and the times we spent together during my childhood...today is a good day despite the circumstances...

I had some time caught up and dumped the video I shot at Portland onto a DVD.  Then I made multiple copies for friends.  (Said friends can send me a mailing address...) ;)

I sent an e-mail to a makeup artist asking for a consultation appointment.

I had three bratwursts for lunch, for free (free food tastes better than paid-for  ;) )

After fixing a coworker's computer yesterday, his boss came over to me and gave me a *huge* hug to thank me.

A half-hour later - and this was apparently purely coincidence - the coworker discovered his fixed computer, and HE came to my office and gave me a cute half-hug (I was sitting) to show his appreciation.

Hugs = goodness.

I think I'm going to start sabotaging the computers soon, lol...

MY BABY WANTS ME BACK! Today is a wonderful day! Looks like Mariah will live with us in Febuary! Got to move to a bigger place then! :)

I read all of Marco's post about him and Mariah -- I smiled at the part where he describes sitting at the foot of her bed until she falls asleep...

I put on a bright red hawaiian shirt (Not the fuschia one I wore to Portland,) and black knit pull-up pants, and black shoes with mismatched light/dark blue socks, and went to work.  A few people appeared to think that was -- funny...  I just smiled back.

I signed a new-baby card that was going around -- I did my trademark Japanese congratulation, written upside-down at the bottom of the card.

One of the drafters at work was visited by her 3 year old daughter and her 6 month old son who gave me the BIGGEST smile!  Made my afternoon 'til I read Marco's good news and felt even better!

Today, when I was outside, I could feel the sun and the leaves and the cool air and I felt calm. My breathing was natural and my lungs loved this new autumn. My ears felt warm from the silence.

Today my brother called me and said he wants to meet me for dinner in a couple weeks.  I haven't seen him since I worked for my Dad back in April and he's never seen me as female in person.

Today I went to mass and prayed like I used to.  It made me feel much better about a recent loss in our family.  I felt connected somehow, and that was a good thing... :)

Early this morning I stepped out my front door and looked at the sky.  I do it frequently.  My eyes lifted to Orion as I noted the washed out sky from the moons wasting light.  The brightest star in the sky, Sirius pulled my attention away and led me to yet other dstractive thoughts.  Not far away is a deep space object labelled M46. It is an open star cluster with a beautiful planetary nebula mixed in with the stars.  It was one of the first things I saw through a large telescope of my own.  Standing there on my porch, in the briskness of the morning, a pleasant thought of something warmly remembered along with its beauty, lifted a smile from my lips.

My angel without wings = Cindi

Your soundless voice talks to me across the miles,
We dream together and laugh and smile,
We share our thoughts as tears spill,
Though we've never met
You've touched my life in countless ways,
To such a special friend I must say,

Thanks for being there for me,
For your loving heart and your honesty,
Thanks for being a caring friend,
For all the messages that you send,
Thanks for letting me in your world too,
But most of all thanks for being you!

It changes every day, according to my whim.  I bought several packs of dark colored socks and several packs of lighter color socks about 3 months ago.  Every morning I creatively mis-match 'em -- sometimes the same hue but different saturations, sometimes different hues (red and green, say,) but the same saturation, sometimes as different as possible, like a dark brown with a light pink.

When someone tells me my socks don't match, I say, "They do too match!  They're both exactly the same thickness!!"  Every day, it's some tiny thing wonderful I do for me.

(Try it yourself -- I dare ya'!)

Oh Karen, you should say "Of course they match!  They match a pair at home just like them!"

Today I spoke with my childhood friend Kike on the phone again, and guess what?  he will be coming to the US at the end of January to complete his doctorate degree, and he plans to write his dissertation on transsexuality.  Cool, huh?    His student visa was approved today, and I am sooooo happy for him.  A new year, a new anatomy, an old friend, an unexpected visit........wow....so many things happening all at once!

Today I rode my scooter home in the rain. I'm sure other people in their cars thought I was crazy. My jeans/jacket are still pretty darn wet. ;D
