I had my surgery 19 years ago today. I didn't even think of it most of the day until I logged on and saw the date.  I haven't really sat down to have a thoughtful moment about all of this.

But I've had a good life. It's been wonderful. I've done amazing things. I have people who love me and wonderful friends.

God, I love my life.

I came out to my parents on monday and my grandma today-- everyone is taking it really well and has agreed to start calling me by my preferred name. :) Pronouns....we'll work on that.

I had a guy flirt with me on the train on my way home from work.  I liked him too.  It started with him smiling at me and me smiling back and we were talking a bunch by the time I got off.  Too bad he was heading to the airport to catch a flight which means he didn't live close by.  Oh well.

I'd been checking the website daily since they submitted my name-change paperwork here at work...

Finally today the new document was there -- employee's name changed from [mumble-mumble] to Karen Jean.  I hit the print button pronto...

One of the computer administrators (they're part of my section, so they're coworkers,) input the changes.  It was interesting to watch my access to internet, e-mail and other services shut down as the change propagated across the systems.  So I had to go get my CAC card updated with the new e-mail address in order to log back on.  My preferences had migrated!  No having to set the system up from bone-stock!

I put my new e-mail signature into Outlook, and now I can FINALLY answer the phone at work, "Multimedia Audio Visual, Karen speaking, how may I help you?"

Other than that, there will be no formal announcement at work.  e-mail sent to [mumble-mumble] will be aliased to me, so there will be a few individual Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot moments over the next few weeks.

I'm lovin it!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, that is really wonderful, Karen. Very cool, indeed!

I had some meaningful conversations at the gender clinic I go to yesterday. I got a really good feeling. I have no doubts now about what is right for me. I even bought a wig to start learning new things.

Whatever day it is today; make it the best!

I just walked into work... and two of the women I work with greeted me with, "Good morning, Kate!" amoungst the crowded office...

Hugs Alice, Karen, and Kate.

Alice, it's great that your employer is being so supportive, cooperative and patient.  Many companies I know would get rid of the employee so they wouldn't have the "problem" on their hands, but your cares about you as a person and that IS truly wonderful.

Karen, That's great that you finally get to be you.  Congratulations.

Kate, awesome.  I think you should start working as Kate.  If others want you to and you resist, that could negatively impact the transition, but if they know you are all for it, then that's wonderful.  Heck, maybe you could even start answering the phone as Kate if they let you.

As for me, I have my first genital electrolysis appointment, but I'm not sure if that a good or a bad thing. :o  Oh yeah, I also went to work with minimal makeup (eyeliner and lipstick) since for some strange reason I seem to pass better without much on.

Karen and Kate,

Both of you ladies deserve a big round of applause!  What great moments for both of you, and thanks for setting a great example for the rest of us here.

I met my daughter and her husband for supper last night.  It was really nice to see them and although the food was not the greatest the company was.

For the past couple of weeks, my parents have been visiting.  I love to have them here at my house.  They've been taking me out for lunch everyday and I think that I have gained 10 pounds! I'm not used to eating out like this.  But I'm so happy that they are here and that I get to spend time with them. They are getting old now and I cherish every moment we can spend together.

I had a great time with my parents - they where very understanding and supportive even though I did not mention anything about thinking about transistion. Yesterday we went to a foke festival and heard some lovley music.

I went out dancing tonight. I was at home by myself, decided to just get out of the house and do something fun for a change - ended up having one of the best evenings I have had for a very long time. Moved my body in ways I had forgotten I could, and met some new people I am so grateful for having the chance to meet.

I'm feeling good about myself again. And that I consider to be wonderful.
