Pre T voice help!

Ok so I put up a 'Do I pass" post and it seems that "for the most part" I am androgynous.. some people thought I didn't pass, others thought I could be either or, a few said I did pass.

Which inspires me to work on my voice a little more, I figure that If I am androgynous, then the voice will push me either way, and if It is deeper it may lean towards male.

so yea.. my voice is OK, not majority feminine, but not masculine enough, what are some tricks you guys know?

besides the ding dong, king kong, bing, bong thing, or maybe you can elaborate on the talk from chest thing..

Okay, I've answered threads like this before, but didn't even think about one thing. When I was pre-T, I tried making my voice lower, but I just sounded like a girl with a bad cold. What did work, though I didn't use it much, was trying to make my voice sound raspier. Think Art Alexakis from Everclear. But really, that's the best advice I have for you... and don't do it much, because you can damage your vocal chords. Eliza Dushku (she's the star of Dollhouse on FOX), years ago, was told that her practice of lowering her voice and making it more raspy (which she did for acting, don't ask me why) was causing her vocal chords to weaken, and that she'd permanently damage her voice if she didn't stop. Not a good thing... but she'd been doing it for years. So... see if it works. If it doesn't, T will.

If you try and deepen it too much for conversation, you'll end up sounding strange. Go for male speech mannerisms. If you have any inflection, ditch it. Monotony's done wonders for me. Try and speak 'flatly'.

The raspy thing does work, but it hurts after awhile. I can see how it'd cause damage.

Something that works well for me, is changing how I talk, not just how I sound. Tossing aside all those feminine speech patterns. Stay simple and to the point, leaving out lengthy explanations, flowery details, and the usual exposition of how something makes/made you feel.

There's only so much you can do for resonance without either T or a voice coach. I'm trying to get both.  :laugh:

Actually, I think your voice is very feminine. I don't really have any advise on lowering it. Sorry.

ah brutal man :(

I guess I meant that it could be more feminine.. that it isnt the absolute worst case of female voice. for example I have a friend with a voice so high she sounds like a 5 year old Mickey mouse

There's always something to be grateful for. ;)

Now that I think about it I may be voice-biased. I'm older and mostly around people who have reached past the point their voices change (30's and up). So, I might just be used to deeper voices. Teenagers and people in their 20's voices still change and lower (both male & female). I'm not around teenagers or young adults alot so your voice might be more passable for your age. I don't know.

T will definitely help, but that doesn't help you now.

A guy I know had a very high, light, feminine voice.  He's only been on T a few months and what a huge difference in his voice.

You look, move and sound like a boy whose voice hasn't broken yet to me in the videos.
Sorry, no advice about how to make the voice deeper, since I'm an androgyne myself.

You remind me a lot of me, I think my voice sounds fine person to person, however when recorded/making phone call it sounds much too high to be male.

I'm not too sure what can be done to help change this pre T, I don't do voice exercises.

i used to sing low a lot.  eventually i could sing lower and lower notes.  then i practiced talking lower.  i was in choir too so i got practice every day.  my teacher let me be a tenor (and i could actually sing the parts) since it would look weird if i was the only dude standing in the sopranos or altos.  haha
