I finally got my epilator and I've been torturing myself all week now...

WOW.

I had to do only so much at a time because the thing inflames my skin so much it's probably unhealthy to push to hard. i find that it takes about 2 hours for it to settle down to a mild "psudo sun burn" and maybe half a day for that to fade.

I also find my hair gros so think that in many places it just WON'T get them all in the first session, but i console myself that every hair pulled is one more "first pull" that won't ever happen again.

Eventually the remaining hiar was getting so long I had to use the razor head to cut it and wait to start again.

Of course, I still don't know how long one job will last or what the regrowth will be like - for those of you who might consider this option I'll try to keep this updated - but I can already tell I'm going to like it.

I think it's definitely going to be worth the initial torture in the long run.

I got one a while back but really have only used it 3x lol.

It is a little painful.  I mainly bought it for my legs since I tended to get razor burn on my upper thigh for some reason.  It's just too hard to do in a full house without the suspicion so I stuck to shaving for now.

Legs - not without pain but easily tolerable

groin area - yes I went there, actually not much worse than the legs

hands - tolerable

lower arms - excruciating

abdomen - somewhat worse than the legs but could bare it

chest - I could only brush over it and get some of them. forcing myself to go slow and try to get "all" of it was insane.

armpits - I had shaved them a couple days before so I'm sure I wasn't getting the full impact but i could stand it I think.

Haven't done the back yet, will have to get the wife to make a try over the weekend. I expect it to be very bad.

I shaved everything before I started using an epilator. The hair doesn't grow back at the same rate so it is much less painful. You have to epilate more often at first, though. But when the hairs that were tweezed start coming back they are thinner and don't hurt as bad when they are YANKED from your skin again. :)

I got it on e-bay....just an effort to spend as little as possible.

It's a Remington "Smooth and Silky" EP-8000

But I wasn't focused on the make, I was just trying to spend as little as possible.

I'm happy with how it works though. It has a shaving head that works well too.

My first experience with an epilator was after I'd already waxed my legs, so anything plucked was in growth phase. Still, it was painful; I can't even begin to imagine how it would have felt without the wax weeks before.

It indeed gets better each time. I only had to stop due to a combination of my deep roots and the hairs coming back weaker; I progressively got more and more ingrowns.  :(

It's painful, but the more you do it the less it will hurt and the less it will react. Also, the longer you are on HRT (and blockers) the thinner your hair will be, too, and so will be your skin and the depth that the hair is in your skin.

Being post-op I find it doesn't hurt as bad as before when I tried it earlier on in transition. I just decided to try it again after the epilator was sitting there for a couple of years.

I've tried waxing (messy) and sugar waxing (not as painful and less messy than waxing). I like sugar waxing, cause it's all at once... but it takes practice to do it well... and not all area's are as easy to get to if you're doing it yourself vs if someone else did it for you (like a professional).

I tried my armpits and it hurt and I won't do it again with the epillator. Plus, i ended up cutting myself with the epillator when I tried there. Be careful.

I don't recommend it for the face... I tried that earlier in transition -- bad, painful, not good! It's cause the hairs were thicker, and deeper in the skin then. I've tried it recently just to see, but I just have peach fuzz. I still have the odd darkish hair (haven't been able to afford laser in a long time), but the hairs are very fine, and no one ever notices them... people think I'm insane for noticing them, but I' also looking at them through a 10x mirror. o_0 I thought I'd give it a shot, and it didn't hurt much (much less than my legs).... but that's peach fuzz. Lesson in all of this" The finer and thinner the hair and more to the surface it is, the less painful it is.

The hair on my legs and arms is pretty thin as well. Upper leg is more sensitive, although. I couldn't do my upper leg earlier in my transition at all! Now, it's still sensitive but easier 'cause the hair is much finer. Arms, no probs -- but hair is very fine there anyway... even when grown out, not noticeable. I know other women with much hairier arms and legs then I have. No hair growing else were, except the normal peach fuzz body hair -- I don't even notice much with the epilator if I put it anywhere else, but no point.

Armpits, finer than before, of course, but still, a very sensitive area! Eeeks! Of course, with eye brows, only pluck those or get them waxed by a professional.

I've got one of those evil little ego destroying things too, they should seriously require two therapist letters to buy one.

I hafta respect those who can do the epilator, I had one on for like 15 seconds and said to hell with that.
