I know a range of different people, all with their own views on the sparkling bloodsucker phenomenon, from my school's resident fanatic, to the complete Twilight-haters. So what's your opinion?

Thanks but no thanks on the sparkle - what are they, David Bowie Vamps? - I'll stick with Bella Lugosi, even though he's dead.

I could possibly think of some good uses for those novels, there's bird cages, guinea pig linings, the fireplace of course, or gifts to people who don't normally read and have contracted minds as a result.

I saw something on my twilight-hating aunt's Facebook page: a link to a news story about heroin bags with Twilight characters on them being found. xD

I did an interview with Peter Murry once when I was working a string of shows with him (he wrote, Bella Lugosi's Dead) and coined the term 'goth' to describe what he was doing.  I ought to dig it up, as it turns out he thinks everyone got it way wrong.  Twilight is only proof of that.

I find it gives a very disturbing message. Doing your own take on vamps is one thing, but it's the underlying messages that kind of creep me out.

...also I laughed through the second movie so much. I didn't see much of the first.

I've heard so much about the second movie... at first I didn't want to see it, but now I want to just to make fun of it.

Other than the fact that Robert Pattinson is a handsome fellow, Twilight has absolutely nothing going for it.

I am also quite annoyed by the fact no one is allowed to use the word "twilight" anymore without people immediately thinking about the stories/movies.

Same here. Twilight is an awesome word, but it makes for a bad book and movie.

There were so many things that disturbed me when I read it... and even more so when I watched the movie. I actually read all 4 books. I think I'm going to go see the movie at some point just to mock it. xD
And I'll definitely have to watch Breaking Dawn, just to see how they do it... :O

The ONLY good thing about the Twilight movies is Kristen Stewart. However, after the abysmal first movie, which I'm ashamed to say I watched, she's not even enough motivation for me to see another one.

Oh, and the books? Everything I've read about them says Stephenie Meyer is functionally illiterate. No thank you. Yet another prime example of the stupidity of the masses.

I thought it was o.k. it was fun to watch. Some of it was silly but who cares it's just a movie. But then again I like silly pop songs too. Uh oh I can hear the hipsters weeping now.

...why did you bring the topic that attracts screaming 14 year old girls with enormous crushes on edward whatsitcalled to this forum?

Really....
The books were *ok*, at best, but I flat refuse to watch the movie and add to the hysteria.

That and vampires should, i dunno, actually do something.

My opinion is negative.  Negative indeed.

The sparklyness aside...

It's misogynistic and disgusting.

Remember when vampires were unrelenting creatures of the purest form of indulgence?  Murder, decadence, bisexuality and sexual avarice?

I miss when vampires were monsters that reflected the parts of our own psyche that we don't like to acknowledge, rather than pathetic allegories for the imagined problems of teenagers.

Saw the 1st one and it was meh. NOT a vampire movie as far as I am concerned. I love vampire stuff but this is NOT even close.  I'm also a werewolf nut, but not sure I'll be seeing the 2nd movie....if I do I'm not paying for it...I'll rip it free online lol

Didn't read it. Honestly, my poor brain probably doesn't deserve that kind of torture.

From what I've heard of the plot and writing, no thanks. Not into "romances" anyway.
  •

Rachel Bellefountaine

I'll admit it. I enjoyed the books. However, the Twilight movie was so poorly done that I flat out refused to go see New Moon in the theater.

I've got a friend who made me watch both movies while she sat there in a 'Team Edward' t-shirt and went all googly-eyed whenever he came on screen. I mercilessly took the mick out of them all the way through, of course. :P (Hey, when you've got a friend as fangirlish as that you've got no choice but to wind them up about it!)
Yeah, the movies were pretty shocking, though oddly not as bad as I'd expected because they were so easy to make fun of. The werewolf guy was cool until he cut his hair, after which he just looked like a dodgy porn star, in my opinion. That's not a major spoiler so I don't feel bad about posting it here. There were worse things but I'll stave off my complaints for now, in case there ARE any Twilight fans here who somehow haven't seen it.  ;D
I read maybe half of the first book and throughout it I was just thinking he's a stalker. He's such a stalker. He's a massive stalker and OH GOD WHY IS HE WATCHING HER WHILE SHE SLEEPS, THAT'S JUST CREEPY so no, didn't think much of the books either. I agree with many here, Stephanie Meyer is an appalling writer.
Now let us hope my fangirly friend doesn't stumble across this...  :D
