I firmly believe that Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club is genderqueer. Her dad is a crossdresser. Ouran High School Host Club in general is awesome.  ;D

I can't believe I didn't think of that!  :eusa_doh: Haruhi is very gender-queer, and her dad's an okama. Good memory!  ;D My first thought was Ranma 1/2, obviously.

@光(Hikari) - I think I'll take a look at that manga; it sounds interesting. I didn't know that such a story existed! I'm surprised there's a story with outright transgendered main characters. That's kinda cool.  :)

If I recall that manga correctly... isn't it full of the writer having the characters informing the main character how she should accept being a girl or am I confusing this with another manga?

If you are referring to Hourou Musuko, then you must be getting it confused with something else the main character Shuuichi Nitori is a boy that wants to be a girl, slightly less featured is Takatsuki who wants to be a boy, who doesn't really get that much flak mainly due to being pretty successful with hiding her transgender thoughts. My favorite character is Yuki the MTF, something is off with her and it is totally in a good way :)

Ranma changes sex with the application of water (cold water he becomes a girl, hot water returns him to male).
Konatsu is male ninja brought up as a female kunoichi. Works as a waitress at Ukyo's okonomiyaki restaurant.
Tsubasa Kurenai is a male crossdresser after Ukyo Kuonji

I've read up to the 40th chapter now (I can't put it down!). I like Takatsuki-kun, but I wish she was in it more. I really connect with her. The only thing I don't really like about it is that the story focuses a lot on issues that have nothing to do with the main story (i.e. ->-bleeped-<- and Nitori-san as a main character), like when Maho-chan becomes a model. It's kind of annoying, because I want to hear about the main characters.

I agree with you on Yuki. I like her, because she kinda dances to her own beat. She's got good advice for Nitori and Takatsuki, and she does what she feels is right regardless of what others think. :) She's one of my favorite characters.

I thought someone was discussing Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club.

Shinji and Kaworu from Evangelion (not really, but sometimes I wonder...) I think Shinji was even based off of one of Anno's female characters.

I don't think they're gay (certainly not trans), I think Kaworu is just wondering about human emotions (you know the scene I'm talking about). And Kaworu is awesome, but kinda douchey. Just saying.  ;D

I agree. I don't think either of them are trans, though I think the gay side is unclear and open to interpretation. The joke on Shinji is just that he's portrayed as stereotypically "womanly" throughout the series, from the way he looks to his deferential nature and submissiveness (especially to Asuka)

That is true... Shinji doesn't really do that many stereotypically "manly" things. But, I don't think he's really "girly" per say, just indifferent.

Agreed...True. But I think the word you're loving for is per sue:angel:

I don't think per sue is even a variation. Not one I can find anyway, as it is a latin term.
Don't be scared to fly alone, find a path that is your own
Love will open every door it's in your hands, the world is yours
Don't hold back and always know, all the answers will unfold
What are you waiting for, spread your wings and soar

Well I know many places that have many variations of words and almost any word can have a variation but anyways...We don't need to sidetrack this thread anymore! LOL.

But my only thing to say that's on topic is that I've seen a few trans-people in anime but not really not much! :<

Just usually androgynous or very feminine...Not actually tans-trans.  :'(

I think I've read almost every "gender bender" manga on mangafox http://bit.ly/bhZbVh

Most of the actual trans ones seem to be Korean.

I'm in the middle of Global Garden right now...it's interesting.

ha thx

Oh no, not all of them, some of them are. That's just the list of general "gender benders".

That makes a lot more sense! There aren't many gender bender manga/anime that have actual people who are trans. Most are just goofy "let's switch their gender and see what crap they can get themselves into" types, and while those are funny, there aren't that many truly "relatable" characters.

Yep, but I love manga/anime in general so they're still fun to read haha.
