Is there a way for an FTM to have bio children with a woman? Does artificial insemination work with eggs? Or would I need a sperm donor. I want my kids to look like me and the wife  >:(

Is this true? What is the procedure called? I don't care how much it costs.

There are some very early experimental methods that can allow two women to both be biological parents of the child. They involve taking eggs from both of the women, using chemicals to transform one of the eggs into a sperm, and then fertilizing the egg with the sperm under a microscope. Then the embryo is implanted back into the uterus of one of the women.

*edit* read the first post wrong *edit*

I saw a article somewhere about advancement in making sperm out of eggs or something of that nature. I'll try to find the link

I don't know anything about this, but I know that it will be INSANELY expensive.
I was offered the chance to freeze my eggs before starting T, and I can't remember the cost, but I remember my jaw dropping to the floor.

You can freeze your eggs for about $10k and it's about another $500 annu.ally to keep them

Thanks guys.

Why you gotta freeze your eggs? Can't you just stay off T for awhile and it'll come back?

Well, there's probably a chance of permanent infertility. This trans stuff is sort of experimental at present it seems (as compared to other medical practices.)

So was Thomas Beatie just incredibly lucky not to have been infertile or can fertility return if off T for a certain amount of time?
He was able to have 2 pregnancies and carried full term healthy babies born via c-section, and I've have heard of others too, but they were not after media attention. ;D

Nah, I bet it's a really small chance. Like the chance of HRT causing uterine/ovarian cancer. Nobody really knows for sure yet.

It took him two attempts to become pregnant, and nine doctors were involved with making sure it went well.

Whether he was lucky or not, we don't know. I think another issue to consider is that we don't know for sure if going on HRT and then off would cause anything to happen in the child. That would be troubling if you didn't go interfile because there aren't enough numbers of FTMs who have done this to understand the potential threats or changes in a child after undergoing HRT. Let's not forget that there's a risk of having to perform a hysto when you get on T.

Either way, you're paying a lot of money. More than top surgery would normally be.

Total cost for each treatment and sperm will be $1,500 to $2,000. It's possible that the first time you might not have an implant. It's possible that it may take MONTHS to have an implant. Think of it as $2,000 per month. That's if you want an anonymous donor.

There are options that if you have a sibling that is close to what you look like that you can use that to create a child to be genetically similar to both of you.

Myself...I just say adopt. There's plenty of kids in foster care and orphanages looking for homes.

Amen to that. I'm long over wanting to have a genetic child of my own, I can understand the feeling of wanting one, though.

I really want one. I've got a brother who looks and acts exactly like myself so I have the perfect donor. I was originally wanting a huge family with a mish mash of adopted kids and biological kids (no over seas adoption...I've got way too many problems with that). Maybe some foster kids. I'd probably adopt kids that were 5 and up that way they know the situation so I won't have to explain it to them, no needed to deal with potty training and they have personalities already.
