No in the UK you can get anything on prescription with a maximum charge of just under £10. (and if you were on benefits then that would be waived also). So if you require a large quantity, even something cheap like lube can be cheaper to get that way.

Where do you get those bed pads and what are they called?

Diposable pads, I got a couple of the large ones and a 2 packs of the smaller ones.

If you go to Shoppers Drug mart where you live (cough) go in the center isle, you should see them there, its I believe right after the diapers isle. (all shoppers are mostly common in appearence)

Dynarex is a huge supplier of them

Prescription for lube?

Hi Sara,

Yeah here in the uk the NHS will pay part of the cost if on benefit, or have a pre-payment card, which you buy for approx £28/$56. It lasts 3 months and you can have as many prescriptions as you need and unlimited. Really handy for expensive stuff and lots and lots of inexpensive staff like lube (if your using 30 tubes a month to start with, suggestion is one tube a day).

I will be that lubed up I will probably slide off the bed, lol.

I called my doctor about this, and he wouldnt write a prescription for that regardless, but I did get my 3 cases but I still will be able to write it off my taxes 2010 end of year. So regardless, I just have to keep my receipts in order.

The pads I get are called disposable underpads.  In K-Mart they are with the adult diapers.

Thanks for the tip about the towels, Valerie.  In the beginning I would make quite a mess, but now I stain the pad just enough not to keep it but too little to feel like I have to throw it out.  (I throw it out anyway while feeling guilty about adding it to the landfill.)  Maybe I'll be able to re-use the pads a little if I also use a paper towl.

Yes Chloe, better start collecting, we will use about one tube a day to start, lol.

Hope it goes well for you and heal quickly. You will be well acquainted with dilation by the time I have my GRS.

YMMV.  I used a case - 12 tubes, 2 oz each - the first month.

It's getting close, Chloe. :eusa_dance:  Soon you will be an old hand and wondering what all the fuss was about.  ;D

I like the container surgilube is in better. It is a metalic (aluminum?) tube that is easy to squeeze. The KY I was using was in a hard plastic tube that is a little more difficult to use. As Sara mentioned, it is cheaper ...and you can buy it in bulk.

I'll order two.  Valerie, how do you prepare your dilators before dilating?  Do you just rinse them in an anti-bacterial solution or do you soak them?  I'm presuming the ones you will be using each session are disinfected then laid out to use.

For the first 2 months they stay in a container of distilled water and hibiclens that is changed daily. Before using I take a paper towel and remove any hibiclens residue before applying gel. After dilating I wash them in a foam antibacterial soap and put them back in the container for the next session.

Starting next week the dilators will stay in a dry place after washing with the foam soap, probably the same container minus the hibiclens mixture.

What type of container do you have them in?  I'm trying to find a stainless steel one.  How long are the dilators so I can order a container long enough
