I just bought my first skirt! *squees* It's an indonesian batik style skirt, and I'm loving it to bits!
I was at an indonesian fair with friends, and I was looking through the skirts.. So I saw it, and was instantly taken in by it. A friend said: Well; if you like it, buy it! It's only twenty euros.. The shopkeeper got a giggle-fit, and asked who was going to wear it. So my friend looked at her, pointing at me, and he went: Well; she, of course.  Anyway; I was nervous like hell, shaking and blushing, but he helped me through it, and insisted I buy it. He said I'd feel much better after, and he was right!

I tried it on, with a top provided by my partner, and she said I looked great, too!

Just wanted to share, since I'm still completely psyched about it! ;D

Funny thing.. That was also my coming out towards that friend. Lookit me being all good at hiding my feelings.  :P

I know the feeling, but unfortunately I could not wear skirts so frequently.

I remember the moment when I first wore skirt in my workplace. They all knew that I am male, and I guess there were all perplexed. Thankfully, my close
American colleagues accepted it as usual, but the aftermath was so big there. The skirt was painted with roses and my wife chose it for me: https://www.susans.org/forums/MGalleryItem.php?id=1757

My first skirt was actually my wife's. She wore it before she married me.

And, most women, including my wife, seldom wear skirts. But I will wear skirts more than women, as I think skirts fit me better than pants. Hopefully I will wear more simple junior's skirts this fall: https://www.susans.org/forums/MGalleryItem.php?id=2117

Yes. Cosmetics were fine. Even high heels were fine. But, skirts were different. Some people interpreted it as a kind of political protest. Oh my gosh....

Barbie~~
Just do it.

Most women I know mostly dress unisex, but have a few of the more feminine outfits for occasions, or when they just feel like it.
It's not really about the fabric, but more a symbolic step for me.   ^-^

Great feeling, huh? :)  I was unfamiliar with the style, so I googled it and OMG they look wonderful!  Is yours knee or full-length?

Full length; I can wear it as a dress for knee-length.  ;D
I've worn kilts and armsman's skirts before (you know; the full length straight leather skirts with a split? They're very popular with the cyber and metal scenes, in the NL) and I loved the feeling of freedom, but this fabric is so much lighter, and cooler to the touch!
Next stop is getting my make-up skills working.. (I'm a clutz with that stuff; especially eyeshadow. Planning on getting some liquid, since the powder simply won't catch on. But my partner's warned me that the liquid make-up tends to flake.)
But yeah; quite happy with the indo look, even though I'm a ginger. ^_^

My first skirt was a kind of gothic/hipster sort of skirt; layered black frills that tend to go well with patterned stockings.

It's pretty much the only skirt I own at the moment, unfortunately. I've been trying desperately to get people to go shopping with me, but they're unfortunately all very busy [it's exam time for most schools at present]. I had plans to go shopping tomorrow, but I can't hear back from my friend for some reason. Bluuuh.

Definitely gonna buy a second skirt & my first dress sometime soon though. :p
