So I just started college and found out that the GLBTQ group also has a  trans support group. :D AND one of the heads is a transwoman who is so cute! :D She handed out orange ticktacks with "Spectrum" on the packet. I was really like "OMG this is so cool that in an INDIANA college, trans peeps have somewhere to go. I was so afraid that being the state indiana is, that as a trans supporter and sexually fluid person, that It'd be hard to find a place to be comfortable, but that's not so. I have been extremely busy though... Crazy.

My roommate is also Bi and LGBTQ friendly. It's mindblowing to have community so easily accessable. I can't say I miss home but wow. I wish that the guys and girls on here could experiance this... It seems a little unfair that I'm not going through dysphoria or anything and I just wish that this kind of support was accessable everywhere.

I think someone even recognized me from here. o.o I'm mind blown

I'll be starting college too in a few days, and I'm pretty anxious to find out what the LGBTQ group is like at my university. :X I sure hope they're trans-friendly, because I think I'm probably going to run into some gay people I knew in high school, and they're going to take one look at me and go "What the f---?!" Lol.

That's totally cool that there's such an accepting community there. Must be awesome for any transfolk looking for support. ;D

My experience with college LGBTIQA groups is great. Though I actually run the one on my campus - so I may be a bit biased.  ;D

Any transphobia you experience from people in the group is probably from inexperience with transfolk and the lack of education most people receive. My Freshman year (I'm now a college Senior) my group did absolutely nothing on the T in LGBT - and the President really concentrated on Kings & Queens because that was what he was familiar with. The end of the year we went to a big LGBTIQA conference held at UNC-Chapel Hill called UNITY and the keynotes were both Trans so the five of us got quite an education.

My girlfriend had actually been kind of wary of transfolk before the conference  but after she remarked that her eyes had really been opened. So when we both got elected to the executive board for our Sophomore year we made a point to really educate the students on Trans issues. We even began a smaller organization within ours that deals specifically with Gender Identity so that we don't overlook Trans issues.

If you ever encounter ignorance within the group - offer to educate them - and chances are, at least through my experiences, you'll really help to change their perspective. :)
