Your body will tell you if it needs more calories. Your appetite will let you know. In order to gain muscle, though, the biggest change between the male and female body is the muscle to fat ratio. In order to facilitate the muscle gaining process, you will need to significantly up your protein intake. I can't give you exact numbers (I am sure there are calculators out there) but you will likely need some multiple of your "female" protein intake to equal that of your "male" protein intake.
My point is, really, is that it's not so much the amount of calories you take in as where they come from that will impact the change in ratio of fat to muscle.
