Transgender or Gay Friendly Doctors In Orlando & Surrounding Area?

Alright, I know I've posted something similar to this in the ftm forum, sorry. I should have put it here originally. I ask for trans or gay friendly because I am really just looking for an open minded doctor if I can't find one that has handled transgender clients in the past. Looking for a GP. Male/female/age/length practicing does not really matter to me. I've got two months to find one but I would prefer to have a couple & be able to call around. Any suggestions are appreciated I've checked with my local center who had a couple of gay friendly doctors but I would love to find someone who really understands about Transgender people because I am hoping to get informed consent to get on Testosterone.

Man, I lived in Florida for 30 years.  Let me give you two excellent contacts that are bound to help you out. 

First, there is "The Watermark" which is the LGBT Community newspaper for Central Florida generally but specifically is in Orlando itself.  Call or e-mail them.  Don't be shy.  They'll help you, man.  Here's their link:

Second, even though these people are actually in Pinellas Park (Saint Petersburg/Tampa), Florida, they know the Florida LGBT Community really well, are very helpful and are open to helping people like you.  At this place, you can either e-mail or contact Pastor Joyce at the church itself or Dr. Kathleen L. Farrell (My original gender counselor) in the church annex.  Don't be put off by the word "church."  These people are cool and are NOT fundamentalist nutso types.  Here's the link to Christ the Cornerstone Church ... specifically a LGBT Church.  It's not a LGBT-friendly church ... it's a LGBT Church ... period!  Here's their link:

Thanks Lacey Yeah I've been here about 8 years so I know of the watermark but it's a great suggestion because I didn't even think of contacting them! That church sounds awesome! I'll definitely check them out I haven't gotten my license yet but I'll be getting it within the next month, maybe that church will be my first small road trip. I'll email them as well and see if they can help. Thanks!

Lacey has good advice.  I haven't been inside the church itself, but Dr. Farrell is my therapist so I can at least second her as a good resource.  I live on the east coast, so I have to drive to that area every few months for appointments.  She sent me the names of several doctors around Orlando when I was getting ready to start hormones, but I think I deleted that email so I can't help you out   I see a doctor in Safety Harbor (near Tampa) who has 100+ trans patients, but I'm not sure how many doctors in the area do informed consent - you might need to see a therapist to get a letter.  If that is the case, Dr. Farrell does operate on a sliding scale for those who need it.  I wish you luck young grasshopper

You're in GOOD HANDS, girl!  Next time you see Dr. Farrell, say "Hi!" for me and send her my affection.  She'll know who Lacey in Portland is.  Tell her Lacey is seeing Reid Vanderburgh in Portland.  She'll know of Reid.  Dr. Farrell has been to Portland many times.   She totally rocks.  Saved my life, that woman.  She's tops in my book.

I'm going to throw my bit in here. I've been with Curtis for 8 months now, and I'm pretty sure I'm being under dosed. She started me  twice daily...and I'm like 225 lbs. That was for something like 5 months. Be wary of under dosing if you use her. I'm looking at finding another doctor. All that being said she's really nice and tracks like EVERYTHING in your bloodwork. Makes things very expensive though.

I know this thread is old, but in case anyone happens across here...  I called Brenda Barry's office to make an appointment and, guess what, no new transgender patients are accepted if they are over 60.  WHAT!?!?!?  Like, AGE DISCRIMINATION!  I will give them a second chance but if I run into that again I am going to give them a scathing review on every review board I can find!  ZERO stars!  How DARE they in this day and age?!

This was referenced way back in 2012 by Michelle S, but I go to Two Spirit Healthcare even though they're 1:20 drive from home. They specialize in transgender support and treatment. Ann Currier is my therapist, and she's awesome. Their in-house endocrinologist is Joey Knoll, who is handling my HRT meds, and he offered to take on my primary care if my current doctor had a problem with my transition. As it turned out, though my doctor doesn't specialize in TG treatment, he was very cool about it, so I'm comfortable staying with him for everyday medical stuff.

Right now Joey is the only practitioner in the office, so he's a bit overwhelmed with work, but if you can get an appointment with him it's worth it.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with Barry's office. I know nothing about that practice, so I'm not much help there. It is distressing to hear about an age cutoff, considering I just turned 59.
