Hey guys, I've been thinking about buying some (plano) glasses? I'd like to know your opinions, and what styles are considered masculine or feminine?

This is me looking like a berk in my parents' glasses... I've been told that I suit them by a few people.

The ones I'm after are these:

Think they'd suit me?

I like square frames, personally. I think they make the face look more square, thus more masculine. Go for it

I agree that you need new frames...I think the shape of the old ones is all wrong for your type of face. I think I would have felt this way even if you hadn't asked.

Is there any way you can try on the new frames in an optometrist's office and take a pic for us?

I also recommend that you take a pic of yourself without any glasses, and post that.

Square glasses suit round faces and vice versa. It's like some law of fashion.

I thought the frame was too thin with those glasses I'm wearing in the pictures. And I don't go out in those ones or anything, my mum and dad usually have them on most of the time, so I can't have them.
As for an optometrist, I'm not really down for spending a lot of money on a pair of glasses that only serve the purpose of masculinizing my face.
In any case, here is my face as of today:

Just making sure, the glasses I'm after ARE square(ish), aren't they? They seem it to me but then again they're kind of rounded off.. IDK.

Off topic, but you would make an excellent Pete Doherty.

Your parent's glasses do you well, but the ones you linked to are very different.

It's best to get a mirror and try some on. Glasses are not really divided into male and female styles, that is just a facade to keep glasses-wearing, "pro"-their-own-gender customers happy. Square frames can compliment anyone, in my opinion. It is just a superior shape of frame. I've had round frames, and rimless ones, any feminizing or masculinizing (is there a better word for this?) effect of the shape is completely imperceptible.

The color and any intricate designs, now that is where the money is at.

Assuming a medium-sized lens:
Wireframe specs will make you look younger/nerdy.
Resin/plastic frames will make you look like a hipster or yuppie.
Somewhat substantial metal frames will make you look somewhat sophisticated or classy, or even just well-read.

For example:

These are somewhat sturdy copper-colored rims from the mens section. Rather than having a masculizing (???) effect I get more of a naughty librarian look at times.

Another style (pic taken 7 years ago when I was very macho)

Rimless glasses, they are very light and wiry, but not feminizing.

It's all in how you present yourself, so just get a style that you think compliments your self image.

Ryan, I was actually told in the "Do I pass thread" that I looked stoned, so I guess I would make a good Pete Doherty, haha.

I'm thinking that going shopping for them would be the best option now (I was going to buy them online, since they were pretty cheap).
As for designs and colour, I was just thinking of something plain and black, and probably a thickish plastic frame. I generally thought that the thinner the frame, the more feminine it was? Since I don't really see a lot of females wearing thicker framed glasses. But I suppose whether or not something makes you look more feminine or masculine really depends on your face/body to begin with.. Hmm.
I think plastic thicker frames is what I'll probably be going for though, kind of for the hipster look? At the moment I'm in-between looking like a hipster and a well dressed chav.
I'll see how it goes, thank you for the informative post!

I do think the trendy hipster look would work well for you.  :)

I wanted glasses like that at some point but after trying them on I think it looked awful.  :-\
