I think I've more or less decided on a fashion mullet. I wont have a lot of length but I think it could possibly look good.

heres some examples I'm going off of.

(I think this girls face looks a lot like mine!)

and I might consider a pixie cut like this if it turns out I don't have enough hair.

I understand about the hairline.  Mine has always gone back a bit too.  Nothing excessive but it's been that way since I was 15.  I keep my hair relatively short.  I had long hair for a while but it just annoyed me and I had to put way too much effort into it to get it to look good.  Bangs are your friend if you're worried about bossing.  But you're always going to find things wrong with yourself.  I know I do.

Also I'm a fan of the pixie.

Well there's that.  And on male bodied members of society the pixie is pretty much a standard haircut.  So as far as passing goes it's probably not your best option; at least not for now.  Even before getting a haircut, having shaped eyebrows makes a huge difference.

Get bangs, dye your hair ONE color and stick to it. Dont do any drastic/weird haircuts or it will bring attention to your forehead/hairline if you are trying to cover it up. Do layers if you want to accentuate femininity. Brush your hair every day to prevent breakage and do a deep moisture therapy every week to prevent future damage. If you feel your hair is thin or thinning, do not dye it too much, taking care of it will give the illusion of thicker/fuller/healthier hair.

The really really short haircuts are for girls with very strong "feminine" faces (aka winona ryder, natalie portman, emma watson etc) in order to pull off, otherwise it wont help with "passing" if that is what you are ultimately trying to achieve.

Depending on how masculine your face is, I'm not sure that a haircut would make the difference between passing and not passing as in all the hair in the world isn't going to make you look like less of a dockworker, just as much as a supershort haircut isn't going to make you look less feminine then say the size of your feet.  I'd rather just be happy with my hair and leave it at that.
Our biograhies are our own and we need to accept our own diversity without being ashamed that we're somehow not trans enough.

It was just an honest opinion, if you really want to pass you can go the route that will most likely help your case, or the route that is 50/50. But that is just what i have experienced and what i have seen my friends go through, others are free to contribute their own ideas.

By all means its good advice.  I was just suggesting that people tend to obsess over the minor details in their quest to pass and ignore the major ones (like maybe you have great hair, but you still sit like a neaderthal).
