Hi all,

I just heard from a girl at my support group that the prostate gland is NOT removed during MtF SRS. To be honest, I was appalled to hear this. I'm hoping she has out of date information. Is this really true?

To me, having a prostate is a very 'male' thing to have, and basically defines maleness, among other things. All the crap we go through to become women is made less worth it to me if I have to have my prostate hanging around.

I mean, how am I supposed to think of myself as a complete woman, even after SRS, when I'll have to start getting my prostate checked for cancer when I'm older? Not very cool.

Please help,

Chrissi

Some surgeons remove it, others do not due to how much it is subject to atrophy (shrinkage).  From what I am told, it does not need to be checked, yet if it were to be screened for signs of cancer, this can be done vaginally by your ob/gyn. For myself, I think of my "penis" as female, so retaining my prostate, which I don't even think about on a daily basis, is a non-issue.

It will shrink every day you're on HRT. And depending on how long you've been on HRT, and how old you are etc., there might not actually be anything to remove.

No the prostate is not removed.

But take heart, hon, that will shrink quite a bit after surgery.  Also the prostate will become your g-spot.  And I can assure you that it can be quite pleasant!

And as a sign of masculinity, a couple of things.  One, no one will ever know that you have one.

Two, there is growing evidence that a cis-gendered womans g-spot which encircles the neck of the vagina is quite similar in structure to a prostate.  Remember, that as a foetus, we all start as female.  There are many similarities of the genitalia between males and females.  And it is believed that the nodule is in the foetus, appears to grow into the g-spot for a female and a prostate for a male.  So in actuality it is neither a masculine nor feminine component.

Out of the darkness, into the light.
Following my bliss.
I am complete...

Without it, you'll produce sod all lubrication. It's an analogue organ, the female equivalent is the bartholans gland.
You're actually less like a cis woman if you have it removed.

Yes yes yes -- Sandy and Vexing speaketh the truth. It is an analogue to the prostate called the Skene's Gland.

The Bartholan's gland is the female equivalent of the Cowper's gland in males... another analogue... which some SRS doctors leave intact to provide lubrication.

Mine was left intact yet I have never seen any fluid when I orgasm.  What's the deal?  Does it produce any fluid or if so where does it go?  What route is it supposed to take?  I have always wondered this....wondering if it just gets absorbed in the body, or if it doesn't exist at all.

No surgeon would touch a prostate gland unless they had to.
It's wrapped around the neck of the urethra.
Screwing around in that area could very easily lead to incontinence.
Also, there are tons of nerves there.
You don't want to lose any sensation, do you?

Yes, the prostate gland does often shrink under the influence of hormones.
In other cases it does not shrink significantly.
The risk of prostate cancer is reduced substantially, but not quite to zero.

So does it shrink on HRT or after the surgery, or both?

Sandy, you mentioned it can be pleasant....does that mean in having intercourse? How does this work?

And Vexing, do you mean to say that the prostate is what produces lubrication for post-ops? If so, it wouldn't be the same stuff as what cis-women produce would it??

Sorry for the rookie questions!!

It shrinks on HRT as far as I know. Too few people get SRS without HRT to know otherwise.

Having your prostate stimulated during sex feels extremely good. I can attest, as I've had it done to me many, many times.

It's virtually indistinguishable from cis female lubrication.
Male and female genital function is extremely similar and highly analogous, forget the social conditioning you've absorbed that boy bits and girl bits are totally different.
